In the 1950's my family and I just couldn't go just anywhere on trip out of state because it was unsafe, even in NY Jews couldn't work for NY bell and having a double whammy couldn't buy or even rent is some neighborhoods

I knew that America was in trouble in the 80's as I watched SCOTUS allow the government to conduct unconstitutional and abusive towards the citizens actions.

I not see that America would collapse in my lifetime.

It didn't even exists in the 1950's. What Evince posted is the ideology of what the American way of life is or should be. What it's always boiled down to is that people felt that they had a shot at a better life that wasn't determined by class or caste or religion or race. Now we all know that a LOT of serious changes had be gone through for groups of people to actually have that shot. Also, many would argue that the "shot" doesn't exist beyond a certain point.

But

When compared to REAL, FULL ON dictatorships, oligarchies, communistic and theocratic countries around the world, our American way seems the better shot.
