Another baffling story behind the Left's ongoing love affair with radical Islam

And you can break it down even further with the Muslim Brotherhood: which are distinguishable from the Salifis insofar as the MB will embrace modernity and democratic processes [at least until they get elected].

Salifis advocate a return to 7th century Islam...they are what most people think of in terms of radical Islam. But the MB only differs in terms of strategy: their end game is still Muslim dominance. And I'm pretty sure the State Department believes that any Muslim group that isn't Salifist is a moderate group. If what happened in Egypt is any indication.

In my own lexicon I've taken to using the term Islamist for any Muslim or Muslim group that advocates sharia law for infidels. That covers all the bases.

But the Salifis present the most immediate danger. There is no dealing with them.

Like all religion they want to turn back human progression to a more repressive time when superstition ruled mankind.

'Islamist" is also the term used in Syria for those wanting Sharia, as well as the AQ types (al-Nusra, etc.) -not just western infidels.

one would think so....but wait! there's more!

Muslim Brotherhood-Aligned Leaders Hosted at State Department,” by Adam Kredo, Washington Free Beacon, January 28, 2015:

The State Department hosted a delegation of Muslim Brotherhood-aligned leaders this week for a meeting about their ongoing efforts to oppose the current government of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt, who rose to power following the overthrow of Mohamed Morsi, an ally of the Brotherhood, in 2013.

One member of the delegation, a Brotherhood-aligned judge in Egypt, posed for a picture while at Foggy Bottom in which he held up the Islamic group’s notorious four-finger Rabia symbol, according to his Facebook page.

That delegation member, Waleed Sharaby, is a secretary-general of the Egyptian Revolutionary Council and a spokesman for Judges for Egypt, a group reported to have close ties to the Brotherhood.

The delegation also includes Gamal Heshmat, a leading member of the Brotherhood, and Abdel Mawgoud al-Dardery, a Brotherhood member who served as a parliamentarian from Luxor.

Sharaby, the Brotherhood-aligned judge, flashed the Islamist group’s popular symbol in his picture at the State Department and wrote in a caption: “Now in the U.S. State Department. Your steadfastness impresses everyone,” according to an independent translation of the Arabic.

These would be a great debate questions for both Hillary and Trump but I'm sure we'll never hear it:

What is the distinction between Salifist and moderate Muslims? Or can you describe briefly the difference between Islam as a religion and Islamism as a totalitarian political ideology?

I almost guarantee neither of them could do it. And that should scare people.

indeed. and that's how anti-terrorism (sic) studies are written
not "radical Islam" or" violent extremists" . we do a very good job of understanding this at the intelligence level
if we still want to muck it up at the political level ..

I imagine even Obama is familiar with these basics, as much as he wants to play ostrich about it for his "political talking points"
( the term he used the other day to disparage those who value accurate language)

google: 'Army War College on terrorism'. it's a really good resource on anti-terrorism strategies

' Islamist ' pertains to political Islam. It's a very simple term requiring no strata nor divisions.

Who is Saul Alinsky?
The truth is that Omar claims he was inspired by ISIS. That is well understood. To quote his diatribe verbatim is to give fame to, and promote his beliefs. Is that what you want Granny?
Erasing what is public knowledge, that is Alex Jones territory Granny.
You are very funny .
Which Leftist isn't a Saul Alinsky clone? That's the real question.
The truth is you're talking out of both sides of your mouth, and that's no small feat knowing that you're gulping LegionTGB at the same time.
Lynch is in ISIS's pocket and so are you. Now go get some worship time in at your local mosque.
