Biden is looking to restore faith in government

Hah! Outed. The Asshat Legion fucks up again.

WASHINGTON (AP) — As President Joe Biden preaches patience but acts with urgency, his vision of the powers of the Oval Office is quickly taking shape, modeled after Democratic predecessors who dramatically expanded the reach of government to confront generational crises.

In a recent meeting with historians and in private conversations with advisers, Biden looked to the examples set by Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson as he aims to use the levers of executive authority to create opportunities and break down barriers.

Unlike Roosevelt and Johnson, who enjoyed formidable Democratic majorities in Congress, Biden has had to operate with a no-margin-for-error edge in fiercely partisan Washington.

I'm a fan of Lemire. What he omitted is the fact that Biden takes the biggest lesson from the Obama era. He sat and watched as Obama tried again and again to create bi partisan policies to steer the nation.

He failed miserably, just as Charlie Brown fails every time Lucy promises not to yank that football.

As such, Biden knows two very important things:

He's got two years to navigate these waters.

He's got to go for broke now, instead of passing smaller programs with the promise of more to come later.

There is no 'later'. He will not make the same mistakes that Obama made.

Which is not "unity". It's jam through everything while he can and run over anyone who gets in the way. SS, DD

Obama was a failed president. He waited for GOP to lead him.

he should probably put a halt on the political purge and cancel culture going on then. it's too bad he's such a liar.

LOL. Sure he was. He was the first black POTUS whose eye was always on his legacy. History would judge him as no other. As such, he tried unsuccessfully to govern in the manner that the Founders pictured. I was angry every time he tried to work across the aisle. After a certain point, it was ignorant. Of course, he had 75 days with a super majority in the Senate. Not much time to get anything done.

I don't care if he was the first black president.

You can have the best captain ever, and Obama was a newbie, and it wouldn't matter if the ship is sinking uncontrollably.
Trump made it sink faster. Go figure. :)

OK. I don't care if you think he was a terrible POTUS.

Biden learned more about how to proceed as POTUS from Obama, than anyone Lemire references. Especially given that Biden holds narrower margins than Obama did.

damn my estimation of you just went sky high ! You are one of the few liberals who follow the teachings of MLK where a man (person) is judged by their character (deeds) and not by the color of his skin

Shedding 800,000 jobs/month was sinking pretty fast in Jan. of '09 for sure. If he didn't waste so much time trying create balance in govt, he might have gotten more done.

I believe he still goes down in history as achieving more than any other POTUS in his first months.

In contrast, trump took a fairly stable ship, and blew it out of the water.

Then he and his administration should resign in mass...

LBJ as an example? LBJ's time in office was a nadir in faith in government. It was a period of great social unrest where most of the public didn't trust government to do anything. FDR's pre-WW 2 administration was much the same way with court packing, ramrodding through unpopular legislation, and a general suspicion of government.

Johnson fucked up on Vietnam, but his civil rights accomplishments are second to none.

he learned from the worst and does a horrible job. awesome.

Obama gets credit for using the stimulus when the Repubs and other countries wanted austerity.
I'm not gonna not pick it (like repaving my cul de sac 3x) it was neded and it got us out of the great recession

However he is damned for being a racialist ( the most detestable and un-American thing one can be) -
but i think that's because the Dems dont have any other ideas then usurpuing state purview and pandering
to ID politics.

He was also able to self correct his failures -rare in a politician - like finally understanding supporting
"moderate rebels in Syria" was impossible ( the Islamists invariably wound up with the weapons)
and he stopped it over the objections of John McCain and the war pigs

OTH - much worse was his leading the regime change of Libya -causing 10 year off still continuing civil war
and untold suffering and misery for the Libyan people
