Civil War museum gets rid of Confederate flag on new logo

There is an extraordinary amount of rightwing lying on this thread.

Nobody is banning the flag of the Confederate States of America.

There are literally millions of acres of private property in the South wherein Neoconfederates can fly rebel flags, brew moonshine, and build shrines to the Confereracy .

The issue is that our taxpayer supported public property and public commons should not be used to pay homage to enemy nations (CSA) or enemy combatants (generals of the armed forces of the CSA)

I mean, I think it should be totally and completely banned except for in museums, and if you want to see one so bad, go to a museum where it can live as part of the "complete picture of the history and culture of the Civil War", just like Flash said.

If a Trump-loving Hillbilly wants to hoist the rebel flag over his moonshine distillery, and as long as its on private property and not being used to intimidate anyone, I am not going to begrudge a Trump lover their affinity to admire an enemy nation based on slavery. They should be open to mocking and social sanction for siding with an enemy state against America though

I would argue that intimidation is inherent in the flag because of its history of intimidation and oppression.

Anyone flying that flag knows that, and that's why they're doing it.

I agree it should be openly mocked and demeaned, but I think what's more important is preserving the flag's history. That history is erased any time anyone waves it outside of a museum.

I'm no fan of the Confederate flag, but if it offends liberals, I say fly it proudly and offend the pussies.

You don't have empathy. You don't even really have sympathy. What you do is invalidate perspective because it makes you uncomfortable. That's not empathy. That's not sympathy. It's cowardice.

If you have to empathize with those who are the victims and targets of intimidation that flag represents, then you couldn't possibly argue on its behalf because of what it causes others.

So you invalidate those people by posturing that "a great majority" opposes removing the flags, even though we've learned that when it comes to the great majority, whether or not you validate that depends on whether or not it conforms to your myopic world view and comfort. Like how a great majority support Medicare for All, or like how a great majority support calling for witnesses in an impeachment trial, or like how a great majority voted for Hillary Clinton.

You're just not that great a person. You're mediocre. You're a fool.

A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool.
Well, God give them wisdom that have it; and those that are fools, let them use their talents.

At least I understand the difference between freedom and intimidation and know basic law.

I "invalidate"? You're really into that PC lingo.

Insults increase as real arguments deteriorate into personal attacks.

Nobody is banning the flag of the Confederate States of America.

Nobody claimed they were.

However, we have posters who would deprive people of their freedom to display whatever symbols they choose and do not realize the Constitution does not allow this if the government instituted that ban (on private or public property).

So again, this is exactly the problem. You think that just because you're comfortable, everyone else should be comfortable too.

There are a lot of things I am not comfortable with, but I don't try to impose that on others by depriving them of the right and freedom to express themselves.

Luckily, the law and Constitution support my view rather than government oppression by the few.

Nazis and Neoconfederates have a right to speak or protest peacefully on the public commons.

I do not believe they have a right to erect a Nazi flag over a public park, or erect the Confederate battle standard over Arlington National Cemetery, and other public commons

That's funny coming from someone that puckered his lips on the black ass on an incompetent boy dead set on destroying this country.

Agreed. Individuals do not have that right because the authorities determine what is included on public sites. But, they are free to carry those flags onto those public spaces.

Just like I've offered you before, if you want them gone, get off your ass, come to where you've been provided directions, and try to take mine down personally.

I can say with certainty you won't show.

Whether you like someone displaying the flag or not, people like Cypress wanting to prohibit someone from carrying it into a public space for which their taxes funded is fascism.

At least I understand the difference between freedom and intimidation and know basic law.

But do you? If you don't have the capacity for empathy, how can you possibly understand how something intimidates someone else?

I "invalidate"? You're really into that PC lingo.

By saying "historical context is BS", you invalidate the people who have suffered because of the intimidation and oppression that flag represents and of which is a tool. You are erasing history, you fascist.

Telling yourself that is a convenient way to avoid holding yourself to account for being a giant douche.

I like that inanimate objects bother you, explains a lot

Flash thinks this way because to him, the Confederate Flag is pretty and he doesn't understand why people see it as a tool of intimidation. That's because he only thinks about himself.

There are a lot of things I am not comfortable with, but I don't try to impose that on others by depriving them of the right and freedom to express themselves.

What if that expression is a form of intimidation and oppression, you know, like the Confederate Flag was during the Civil War, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Segregation, MAGA; just as it was in Tulsa in 1921, just as it was in Selma in 1965, just as it was in Charleston in 2015?

The "expression" you are defending is intimidation and oppression.

You're also erasing history. Fascist.
