Starting with the National Firearms Act of 1934. Then there was the Gun Control Act of 1968. Then the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990. None of them have done what they were supposed to do, yet all you can say is to do more of what never worked in the past. Practically a textbook example of Einstein's definition of insanity.
Complete BS and ignorance. For one example, Brazil, with about 2/3 our population and very restrictive gun laws, normally has about twice as many homicides in a year as we do. Japan, with some of the most restrictive gun laws in the world and very few guns in civilian hands, has had years where their suicide rate has exceeded our combined homicide and suicide rates. The U.S. has one of the lowest homicide rates in the Americas and is below the world average.
The vast majority of the world is not free.
Or perhaps it's time to return to an old direction that seemed to work better. Put universal gun safety education in all public schools. Follow that up with actual firearms training. Return to the Founders' vision of a nation where all citizens are familiar with firearms, thus making them suitable for service in a well regulated militia. That's what the 2nd Amendment is really about.
The only places where strict gun control has worked have been places that didn't have a problem with guns in the first place. If they did have problems with guns, then imposing strict gun control has only made things worse.
Your ideas will only make things worse. Nothing that you have in mind has ever made things better. We need to look for root causes. In particular, the way we raise our children.
What Japan's suicide rate demonstrates is that strict gun control has no effect on human behavior. And that's where the problem lies. If we could get rid of all of the guns, we'd still have the behavior to deal with. And just as many or more people would die, as guns aren't the only way to kill people. But if we could do something about the behavior, then the guns wouldn't matter.
