Because Sanders is not a socialist, thus, comparing him to Clinton is comparing apples to apples. Don't be confused by the labels.
While Sanders talks a lot about wasteful military spending, he legislates quite differently.

In spite of claims of being antiwar, his “hawkish” support of Clinton’s military actions in the 1999 Kosovo War caused one of his advisers to quit. When antiwar activists occupied Sanders’ office in 1999 because of that support of Clinton’s war policies, he had them arrested.

If you take the time to read the WSW articles I posted on Sanders, you'd get a better feel on why socialists don't really care for him.
There is much that is decidedly fake about Bernie Sanders.
Fair enough. I was thinking someone who labels himself a socialist and at least presented a platform where some issues are further to the left than almost any other main stream candidate has gone would still have appeal but I get it
