Does a explicit gay scene in the media affects you in a bad way?

And I think just the opposite. Crazy, huh?
While I’m curious about the “needs to be done” statement, the fact remains the ad was a paid commercial selling a product to a targeted audience. I doubt you’re in it….or they simply don’t care. LOL

Back in the 80s middle-aged Americans were often quoted as complaining too many shows and commercials were targeting teens and twentysomethings. Some, like a few on this thread with gay commercials, thought it was a nefarious conspiracy against them. The reality was that middle-aged adults don’t blow their money on clothes, beauty/hygiene products and activities as much as younger people did. After spending a million or two on a commercial, a corporation expects a return on their investment. In those days, it was the younger adults. These days it’s gays.

I fail to see why the anti-gay people want to stop corporations from making money.

The only thing that really bothers me is the way the TV and commercial industry has jumped on the bandwagon like they always do, and pander to whatever the popular flavor of the day is.

Nothing new there, except the nature of who they are now pandering to has changed.

A high percentage of commercials nowadays depict mixed race couples or else the all the actors in them are black. That in itself is fine. I don't care about race or what racial mix any couple is. The problem afaic is, that if you were from another country or another planet, and you came here and watched TV for a couple of days, you'd think that everyone in America was either in mixed race marriages, black or gay.

If that were the reality of our society then fine. I'd expect these TV shows and commercials to reflect that reality.

But it's not our reality. The vast majority of couples, married or otherwise, are straight and over 60% of society is white.

When these pandering Hollywood and advertising suck ups go overboard trying to be politically correct while painting a false picture just to keep a small minority happy, it's just kind of galling.
I understand what you are getting at. It's an attempt to be all inclusive. I often have to ask what the fact that a player is gay has to add to the story?

Was it just tossed in there as an afterthought, to comply with some unwritten rule?

More than a decade ago one of the Law And Order series (maybe the original) was writing off one of the characters. She was an attractive blonde member of the prosecution's team. Big player for many years, and just before they roll credits she was discussing something with her boss. Maybe she was fired?

She comes out with 'is it because I'm gay?'.

WTF? At no point in any of the episodes she was prominent in did they ever address her romantic life one way or the other. What exactly did that add to the story?

The new and improved Criminal Minds just premeired. Turns out one of the long time members of the team is gay? In all of the seasons we'd seen for many years, her sexuality never came up.

Yeah I got what you meant after you asked me about it. He wasn't "my pastor". He was just a President and a founder of Liberty University.

Anyway, to answer your question, yeah he gave a stink eye, but not from front of his head, but from behind his head.

Then he proceeded to swivel his head in both directions as to seek what's behind him, almost Exorcist like, while grabbing the podium with both of his hands, like "Yo dude I hope I ain't dropping no soap".

Sounds like he knows more about that than the average person. lol

After forcing myself to sober up, despite being drunk, I re read my post and your reply, yup. I forgot to add the 2nd part.

Yes you have guessed correctly so +10 Internet points to you.

On the topic, it shows the terror they are feeling for no obvious reason at all. The brainwashing of the children reinforces that terror. They may be suppressed but they do pop up from time to time but they squash it every time or, as with politicians, they attempt to pass bills and laws about it to shield themselves and others from it.

If my posts do not make any sense, ask. But remember I am having a good Thanksgiving night, if you know what I mean.

Thanks. Yeah, a tummy full of turkey does tend to divert resources from your brain, doesn't it? lol

Imagine being a kid growing up in that environment who realizes early on that he/she is more attracted to his/her same sex. Already they would feel like the odd person out. Then couple that with all that preaching of hate and disgust. No wonder so many gay ppl suffer from depression and self-loathing. :(

They don't think of it as making money; they think of it as "brainwashing" and "normalizing the abnormal," kind of like LR did, above.

Ever notice that ads targeting ppl our age are all for drugs? lol

They're anti-capitalist and don't even realize it.

..and cheap insurance and incontinence. :)

And of course, going back to the 90's, there was NYPD Blue and their gay office guy who seemed to be a sort of tacked on addition to the cast with no other purpose than to say "See everybody??? Gays aren't so scary!!!".

I understand. The point of my OP is that certain people born in the 50's to 70's were raised to feel that way. Hence the reason we have what we have today.

It isn't their fault so we should be careful to accuse them of hate and whatnot.
It is their fault. You can overcome these prejudices if you try. People raised by racist and xenophobic parents do it all the time, as do people raised by strict religious parents become atheist or agnostics. You can change the way you are raised.

True but it is still there, albeit unconscious.

Wasn't raised that way, born in 50' raised in the 50's and 60's never thought or taught to hate about it we knew kids who were gay , maybe a white christian American thing
If my parents disapproved of homosexuality, I was never aware of it. I was taught to love everyone.

What bothers me is the Hollywood now almost completely refuses to make movies that appeal to good guys who lust/love women....WOKE does not allow that.
I guess you don’t watch much TV. There are hundreds of movies on right now about guys who lust/love women.

I was recently looking at a list "20 best romance movies"....a good half were gay/trans...almost all the rest had the men either be shits stupid or irrelevant.

There were maybe two movies for men who afore women where they were not being dismissed or demeaned.

It was so sad.
Oh, please show the list, because I’m calling you on this claim.

My dad disapproved and apparently believed that gay men were also child molesters. My uncle (mom's brother) was gay and had a significant other. He moved from Fire Island (NYC) to live with grandma in Grand Rapids when he realized he was dying. His SO, Max, came with him to take care of him. On one of our visits there, my sister and I waited out in the car while mom and dad went in their house to drop something off. Max saw us sitting out there and came out and gave us some little toys he had -- plastic jewelry and stuff. He was German and had a charming accent, and talked to me in German since I was taking it at school. Suddenly my dad rushed out, enraged, and grabbed Max by the shirt and dragged him away from the car window, screaming at him to "get away from my daughters." It was the only time I ever saw him be violent. I felt really bad for Max. Guess my mom did too, because later on she gave me Max's address (after my uncle had died). We exchanged letters for a couple of years. I guess he must have passed away too because the letters stopped.

Great story although sad.

Although a military family, mine was still a Midwestern Protestant family. We didn't talk about straight sex much less gay sex. LOL

Oh how true -- same with ours. Always felt sad for my mom, who once informed me that women weren't supposed to like sex and only did it to have babies and to keep their husbands happy.
