Edwards to Head Poverty Center
NPR - National Public Radio
Former Sen. John Edwards began a new job this week at the University of North Carolina. The vice-presidential candidate will teach there and head a newly formed center designed to study poverty. But Edwards has shown signs he will seek national office again in 2008.

I suppose you are going to use this as some sort of excuse to "act like" Edwards was being paid by the unversity to teach? You are sooo disingenuous Cypress, and now you have Onceler acting like you.
"Former Sen. John Edwards began a new job this week at the University of North Carolina. The vice-presidential candidate will teach there and head a newly formed center designed to study poverty. But Edwards has shown signs he will seek national office again in 2008."
This is pretty embarassing for Freak, but I've gotta say, if the "teach" isn't in there, and all he's doing is heading the center....so what? If you're rich, you should run the center for free, and not take a salary?
"pay his campaign staff from it,"
Really?
Ahhh yes, another parrot. Edwards started the poverty center as a non-profit through UNC. To act like this means he was employed by the university is ridiculous. He was paid from the poverty Center. Not UNC. He took money out of the funds donated to the poverty center. He stated that in the article froggie posted. Just because NPR did a good little spin job on it doesn't change the fact of where he received his money from.
It appears as if it is a vehicle to launder funds for a campaign and to skirt the laws on campaign donations sizes. His campaign staff also is the staff of this and it pays for their travel? They don't have to report on who donates because he has made it so that donations are not tax-deductable.... There is no limit on donation size. Wow. McCain/Feingold totally is being skirted.according to the NY times article String posted...

Yes, it also "appeared" that we were going to be attacked in five minutes according to the NY Times, in early 2003.
That was a hit piece, and that you would swallow it and tell SF how good it tastes, and gee can he cook up some more cause you're still hungry, only shows that you're very gulliable.
I've read Edwards' statements on these so-called "issues" being cooked up by the corporate media, and listened to the other side of the story. Don't feel the need to bother youself to do the same. SF will handle it for you and decide what you need to read. After all, who is more fair and balanced on the subject of John Edwards than Sf? Well, there is RS. By maybe a smidgeon.

University of North Carolina News Release:
"John Edwards will be a marvelous resource for faculty and students across campus," said Law School Dean Gene Nichol. "His life experiences as well as his time as senator and vice presidential candidate make him ideally suited to lead this new center."
At UNC-Chapel Hill, Edwards will hold a part-time, two-year, fixed-term faculty position. He will be designated a University Professor and hold an Alumni Distinguished Professorship, which is funded by private gifts to the University. It takes effect Feb. 14.

and THERE it is.... Edwards blames the evil corporations and the libs say... "well gee golly beave... the thief is just a poor little victim in all this... he must be innocent"
exactly.... but don't tell that to the libs... he was really working for UNC... and we cannot prove anything, because... well... you see... he set up this non-profit so that he wouldn't have to show the trail of funds.
No, I am not stupid, but I am also not blind. If it indeed paid for their travel, if indeed all of his campaign staffers work at the organization and get their travel paid for as well from the orgnization, if all the other things you seem to skip over that are not 'entering the mind' of the candidate are true then this is an elegant solution to the campaign finance laws. It simply skirts all of them if indeed it is true. As well as the 527 which was created...I'll tell you what, if you and Damo can read this opening:
John Edwards ended 2004 with a problem: how to keep alive his public profile without the benefit of a presidential campaign that could finance his travels and pay for his political staff. Mr. Edwards, who reported this year that he had assets of nearly $30 million, came up with a novel solution, creating a nonprofit organization with the stated mission of fighting poverty. . .
Where a journalist clearly and magically enters the mind of a candidate, and lays out the accusation that 1)edwards had a problem, how to keep his public profile alive and finance his travels (Uhhh, all you people do is complain that he is worth 30 million, so this thesis is false on its face) and 2) he "came up" with a poverty program to solve both of these invented problems...
And both of you can read that and claim that it is journalism in any way shape or form, or that you both had your mouths open waiting to lick up whatever came after that announcement of a non-journalistic opinion piece and hit job, then you are both announcing that you are stupid.
Are you stupid?
