Edwards gives the speech of a Lifetime...

I don't care that Edwards is rich. I really don't even care that he goes around the nation collecting money from the super rich and idiots, to finance his campaign. My problem is with pretending this is some morally virtuous act on his part to help the poor. It is what it is, a tool for his ambition to be President.

Not that many people really care about poverty, as a top issue, in this country.

If Edwards established a poverty center at UNC, as merely some sort of cynical move to propel his career, I've got to question his judgement and wisdom.

Get this through your thick skull, you turbolib:

1) Rich Democrats should work for free.

2) People who work for non-profit organizations shouldn't draw a salary. In other words, people who work for the Red Cross and United Way, should work for free.

If they have 30 million dollars, Cypress, I believe they should consider it. If it were their sole means of sustenance it would be OK to draw salary from the charity.

Anyway, the first argument is a strawman, and the second argument is a non-sequitor.

"If they have 30 million dollars, Cypress, I believe they should consider it. "

Fine. But are they a hypocrite if they don't?

Once you hit 30 mill, does any pay for work qualify as hypocrisy?

Yes, he could pull the Sister Teresa routine, and I imagine he'd get Karma points for it.

As an issue in the presidential race, the issue of the University of North Carolina paying him a salary to teach and lecture is just laughable.

FDR could never have become President.

But then, that's exactly what Libertarians would love to see.

Top is just stupid, it's the libertarians on this thread who really make me laugh.

Please, sell it to someone who fell off the turnip truck yesterday.

Now tell me how I've said any of that. I usually call this the "fallacy of hypocrisy". It's a red herring to call Edwards a hypocrite whenever you're arguing about his political positions - and ignorance of logic.

Still, I don't see why a person with 30 mil needs to draw a salary. If he needed it, it would be OK, but this is a charity.

I wasn't talking about you, are you a Libertarian now?

I'm thinking that 40k ain't shit to someone worth 30 mil, so I'd like to hear the details of that before I made a judgement.

Superfreak, you're really bailing out topspin with this kind of idiocy. Edwards gives a ton to charity. How is it hypocritical to take a salary from an organization devoted to alleviating poverty? People DO get paid at charities...you realize that, I assume?

He's not bilking money from them, or stealing it, or taking all of their resources. He's collecting a salary, as anyone in an administrative or managerial role for any charity does....

I merely pointed out that he is a millionaire. He does not need the money, yet he takes it anyway. How exactly does that fit into his "two americas" crap? Or helping the poor? Would that money not be better spent on the... oh I don't know... POOR? Instead that money goes into the pockets of a millionaire. To me, that is highly hypocritical.

Tell you what, see if you can get Edwards to share the details on how much money the foundation raised and how much of THAT went to him, his staff and his campaign vs. to the poor. Unfortunatley Mr. "I want more transparency from lobbyists" doesn't want his money to be transparent.

He would make a great commander in thief.

YEAH you guys are smart your castro like love child edwards is 20% down in the polls.
Why, because hes a phoney

No, not at all. I'm not one of the people saying that he shouldn't run or something like that because of this.

I just considered it odd. But I'm not John Edwards, I don't know the circumstances surrounding it, so I just won't comment on it anymore.

Too true.

And he probably gave it to charity anyway, since he does do that.

No. But pay from a charity set up by you to help the poor most certainly does.

lol

You've never heard me describe myself as a Libertarian? Have my posts been THAT liberal on JPP?

I used to be pretty hardcore about it, though...

Oh, the Horror!

SF, c'mon...you advertise yourself at an independent, fairly non-partisan thinker.

Is this really the story you're gonna stick with: That the measly salary Edwards got paid to lecture and teach at UNC, is some sort of massive case of hypocrisy? ;)

YEAH you guys are smart your castro like love child edwards is 20% down in the polls.

Riiigght. Not like Hillary. No phoniness there. Why don't you just call her office and see if she'll mail you her panties and get it done with Top? Maybe then the rest of us can get some peace around here?

You don't understand what hypocrisy is. Lots of rich people make money. You miss the point of Edwards "2 America's" message...he's not pushing for an America where everyone has the exact same amount of money, or where people can't get rich. He is not anti-rich. He's talking about the lack of accessibility & rights for people WITHOUT means; he - and many other hypocritical rich people - would like to see an easier life for those on the lower end of the scale. I'm glad we allow rich people to talk about this & address it, because without them, not a heck of a lot would get done about it.

That's just so stupid....it's almost impossible to argue with...

This is pathetic, than anyone would make this some sort of huge issue:

FOX NEWS: Edwards received about $395,000 in paid speeches — most of them at colleges — and was paid $40,000 salary for work at the University of North Carolina Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity. The Edwards family donated more than $350,000 to charity, including the International Rescue Committee and Habitat for Humanity.

the castro wing of this boards support of the Breck Boy is comical
He can't come close to beating OBama or Hillary
You guys are a bunch of losers, suppose you feel better supporting an underdog darkhorse.:clink:
