Edwards gives the speech of a Lifetime...

no more so than her post...

I simply took her post and made it similar to the argument against Edwards.

He started a foundation to help alleviate poverty and then took money from it to support his staff, himself and his campaign. Just how much poverty did he alleviate with this foundation?

Do you have any substantive criticism of Edwards policies? Or, is him drawing a salary as a adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina, qualify as some sort of criminal enterprise?

Superfreak, you're really bailing out topspin with this kind of idiocy. Edwards gives a ton to charity. How is it hypocritical to take a salary from an organization devoted to alleviating poverty? People DO get paid at charities...you realize that, I assume?

He's not bilking money from them, or stealing it, or taking all of their resources. He's collecting a salary, as anyone in an administrative or managerial role for any charity does....

You haven't "shown" anybody anything other than you're not going to vote for Edwards, which is a huge shock from a Libertarian.

You have no idea why he does what he does, what his intent is, or what is in his heart. He works to raise awareness about poverty, and yet you "know" that he only does because of ambition. You know what? Even if so, I'll take someone who uses the fight against poverty to further his ambitions, over someone who uses the fight to fatten his big fat oil wallet to further his ambitions. But, you have not "shown" that it is so. Sorry.

His own former staff states this was the purpose. He and his political/campaign staff are the ones who have benefited form his "charity." The organization has financed his study of things that are not connected to poverty issues and are clearly intended to strengthen him as a candidate.

Go on in denial if you like.

He makes plenty of money from other sources. I don't see why he would put himself on the payroll. There's probably more to this that it seems. He got practically pennies from this (compared to his overall fortune), and if he did it just for the money, obviously, it'd cost him far more in the long run than he'd gain from the money.

What is the deal, with the proposition that Democrats should work for free?

The Univesity of North Carolina hired him as a teacher and to run the poverty center. He taught classes, gave lectures, and ran the center, and the university paid him a salary.

I simply fail to see the evil hypocrisy in this.

People don't understand the meaning of the word "hypocrisy."

This whole slam on Edwards - which Fox has really pursued with a vengeance - is a dangerous thing. If you're rich, have a big house & want to help the poor...do you really want to be called a hypocrite?

Is Bill Gates a hypocrite now, too?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Bill Gates collects a salary.

So, if you're a multi-millionaire, the qualification for "hypocrisy" is now "collecting a salary" for any work you do?

This is absolutely ridiculous. People are going to be paralyzed into inaction in America because of all of this faux hypocrisy BS.

And this also makes it disengenious, at best, to claim he "collected a salary from the poverty center."

FDR could never have become President.

But then, that's exactly what Libertarians would love to see.

Top is just stupid, it's the libertarians on this thread who really make me laugh.

Please, sell it to someone who fell off the turnip truck yesterday.

Get this through your thick skull, you turbolib:

1) Rich Democrats should work for free.

2) People who work for non-profit organizations shouldn't draw a salary. In other words, people who work for the Red Cross and United Way, should work for free.

i hear repubs and righties complaining about edwards taking a salary for a charitable org but no outrage over Cheney's apparent conflict of interest. That is my point. The extreme partisanship.

When I hear a repub or a rightie, like you, argue that Cheney's "charitable" donations of no bid contracts are a sign of his great virtue then I will show some outrage.

I am not arguing about any conflict of interest. I am pointing out that this "charity" of Edwards is nothing more than a transparent front for his campaign. It's obvious to anyone that is not a true-believer and chump.

He's a distinguished alumni of UNC, and they were happy to have him, and hire him to be an adjunct professor. It helps both the image of the university, and it brings them money and support.

This is just swiftboating crap. Al Gore drew a professor's salary at University of Tennesse after the 2000 election. Not a peep from wingnutters about that.
