Florida snatches parental authority!

Yes SOME kids would. Others already have responsible parents who allow minimal such time.

But many adults, especially hate filled magats like you, would also be much happier and better off, with more limited screen time.

Does that mean we should have big gov't dictating how they live?

You say the most empty and vacuous things as most of them are meaningless tripe, like your above post.

I suspect that Toxic and the other fascists here have forgotten about when *they* were school age kids. All the negatives they claim about social media were present then, too -- bullying, name-calling, cliques/gangs, slander about others, innuendo, gossip, suicide, etc. In fact, Toxic engages in those scurrilous activities daily as an elderly woman... using discussion forums and social media.

I believe that if a (D) governor had signed such a measure into law, there would be 29 RW threads here decrying "government over-reach" and demanding repeal of the attempt to usurp parental authority by the state. And I'd agree with them. Our resident Reichwingers though must march in lockstep with whatever DeSantis, Trump, and other authoritarian fascist leaders dictate is how it should be, conservative principles be damned. IOW they have no principles, conservative or otherwise.

You finally said something reasonable, good parenting advice.

Well i'm both a parent and a retired teacher so i've got lots and lots and lots of experience... I'm glad we agree because it really is important If we want kids to have any kind of acceptable and successful future...

should parents be required to educate kids?

should they be banned from giving them tobacco?

alcohol?

x rated movies?

can they spank?

can they use a belt?

Most of that should be up to the parents.

I allow my 18 year old to have a beer sometimes.

I do not spank, but believe it should not be legislated by the government.

I think it is abuse to fail to educate a kid, but to what degree? Up to parents.

I think allowing growing kids to use tobacco is abusive.

A belt, depends on the way it is done, I would never do it, but if it does not leave a lasting mark, I do not think the government should regulate it.

I do not believe the government should regulate movies in that way.

In short, the dividing line of where the government should regulate parenting is abuse.

Hitting kids is child abuse and should result in having them taken from you while you go to jail.
I have no room for for compromise on that.

X rated movies is a make believe rating for porn.
NC-17 rated movies might be a bit much for little kids.

Beyond that, my kids watched whatever they want.
I think that PG-13 films would have put my kids to sleep.

Based on what we know now, nobody should smoke, enjoyable as it may be.

Moderate amounts of alcohol, such as a little bit of wine with dinner, should be introduced to kids at adolescence.
It civilizes them.

Otherwise, they'll think drinking is forbidden fruit and drink themselves comatose as college freshmen.
If you want them to enjoy adult beverages as responsible adults, you have to teach them,
and you certainly can't wait until they're 21.

Education should be a joint effort between parents and the department of education,
but unless parents have degrees in education, they should stay in their own lane.

Very good point.

The Magats scream and cry about big gov't over reach over things like 'THEY ARE COMING FOR OUR GAS STOVES'.

They then hit the fainting couch in their hysterics.

But when big gov't comes for the books a library can let people read, or what can be taught in history class, or what contraception you and your family can use, or now how many hours, if any, you responsible kid can use social media... those exact same Magats are all for it.

There world view is that 'gov't should be very involved in parenting and telling parents what their kids can and cannot do', but ...'don't touch my stove'.

Kids should learn about alcohol before they drive. So many kids overdrink in a situation where they did not understand the situation they put themselves in.

should parents be required to educate kids?

should gov't not ban TV time or set limits?

Video games?

Play time outside?

Since we allow gov't to ban some things, why should it not it move into categories such as TV, Video games, and Social media and why would you leave that parents to decide?

Gov't should make all the parenting decisions for the parent once that door is opened.

BUT DON'T LET GOV'T OVER REACH TOUCH OUR GAS STOVE!!! That is too much gov't over reach.

a nationwide law is pretty big overreach

once again demonstrating what an idiot you are in this thread. you can't keep the debate straight and go right for shit that shows you don't even bother to understand someone's point. The dumbest person in any room you walk in!

have you read above users? plenty of disagreement on these things in a short time and a small community of JPP users

Yup. Disagreement is the relevancy of JPP, I guess.

I know one thing.
If my dad had hit me as a child, he'd have had no relationship with me when I grew up.

I like to think that I wouldn't physically abuse him in retaliation,
but I certainly would not have enjoyed the relationship with him that I very much did.

I'm sure that my son, with whom I'm very close, would feel the same way.

We're Sicilian. We forget fucking NOTHING.

Yes a nationwide law that takes the role of parenting away from the parents and gives it to gov't would be a pretty big overreach. Glad you agree.

And while you are in any room, that leaves no room for anyone else to be more stupid. You are so painfully stupid the word moron is more apt.

'Don't regulate my stove as that is overreach but please gov't regulate my parenting with my kid as that is ok' /zymurgy_derp

Choose your words more carefully, QPI.

As long as we're using words from late 19h Century psychiatry,
"idiot" is two degrees more stupid than "moron."
