Georgia mom charged after [11 y.o.] son walks alone less than a mile from home

did she break the law or not?

if u break the law u should be held accountable
I don't know. The cops think she did, but was that really reckless endangerment? Was it along a highway? After dark? Why do you think she should have been arrested, volsk?

Saw this somewhere on X today:

"We are very close to a place where governments can do whatever they want, citizens must get permission".

If she broke the law and it was an arrestable offence
True, but do you think it's just to arrest a mother who let her kid walk a mile home given it was safe to do so?

Or are you a closet Democrat?

Who determines that?

So if people think 15mph in a school zone is not reasonable...they should do 40
I know you're a closet National Socialist, volsk. If people think 15MPH is too slow, they can vote to change the law to 40MPH.

A compromise is to have flashing school zone signs setting the 15MPH limit during certain hours of the school day. The lights would flash during those hours. What is so hard to understand about this?

I think Gun Free Zones are not reasonable but I will abide by the law,,,doesn't matter if I think the law is reasonable or not

Just as in the case of this mother

Duh. No shit. Why are you dodging about voting for changes?

Thanks for the admission about being a closet Democrat.
The public can not vote on law making
Really? What country do you reside, volsk? In America, we have local, state and national elections. Usually all at the same time every two years, but sometimes once a year locally. We vote on county and state bills changing the law such as a bill to raise taxes by 1% for schools.

Link that states the public votes on making criminal laws .....raising tax is not criminal laws

State laws are created by the legislative branch of state governments...not the public

Moving the goal posts again, volsk. The question was about voting on bills. You moved it to "criminal laws". Regardless, as a Republic, voters still vote on criminal laws either directly or indirectly through their representatives.

Yes, volsk. I'm very happy to learn you know that fact. Now the hard part; who elects state legislative branches and is this an example of a republic?

I respect that. To me it’s empowering her with decision-making ability and leadership. My wife is ‘winning’ at the moment, but after seeing the book, she’s changing her tune as well.
I don't really think an 8 year old has the sophisticated enough decision making ability to out think an adult. But I never had a 8 year old girl of my own. I think a 10 year old is a littler wiser to the world and could resist the "help me find my puppy schemes" etc. But you know your child and what they can handle.

For example.: When my son was 4-5 my wife told him never open the door for a stranger. One day she was bathing and our son informed her that he had opened the front door for a man. After the man had left my wife asked our son why he opened the door for a stranger. He replied but he said his name was Paul. To our son if he knew the person's name they were no longer strangers. Little kids don't process information like you or I do. But like I said kids aren't the same and you obviously know about your daughter.

I hear you. It’s good having a partner (sometimes haha) that can no offer a balance and yeah, eight is still young.

Edit: That’s a great story about your son.

Who thinks this is governmental overreach? And how many parents do you think they arrested the NEXT DAY for Trick or Treating? This kid was less than a mile from home. When you were a kid did you ever walk unaccompanied less than a mile from home at age 10-11? I used to walk that far to school almost everyday.
It is one of the most trump supporting parts of the country... And it is not as unexpected as you would think.

They were trying to find a way to prosecute the kid. This is a common idea in red areas of the country. They do not want kids out there, because they "might be criminals."

We live in strange times. Hopefully our Republic, and our Constitution, survives it.

If done right, and we get lucky, we can survive with some harm done. Seizing power, while it might seem like a good idea, would be the worst thing that can be done. We need to preserve as many of the democratic norms as possible, not tear them away.

The first year of Trump's Presidency will say a lot about how much destruction he'll be allowed to take upon our nation.
