'Massive damage': monster storms to slam into east coasts of US, China

A surge in storm activity in the northern hemisphere has spawned "monster" Hurricane Florence in the North Atlantic, super Typhoon Mangkhut in the north-west Pacific and a string of other dangerous tropical tempests.

"Since upper-atmospheric temperatures warm at a greater rate than the [sea-surface temperatures], the instability of the atmosphere is not that much higher, he said.

Even so, each degree of warming allows the atmosphere to hold about 7 per cent more water, worsening deluges in storms - tropical or otherwise.

Rising sea levels too mean that storm surges accompanying cyclones will also increase their impact on coastal areas, Professor Nott said.

"There's every good reason to expect the intensity of these events to increase," Professor Nott said.

Don't fret. maggot says it's a storm in a teacup. Haw, haw.......haw.

Typhoon Mangkhut: Philippines hit by super typhoon

With winds of 205km/h (130 mph) and gusts reaching to 255 km/h, Mangkhut is the world's strongest storm so far this year.

More than four million people are directly in the path of the storm - and thousands have been evacuated.

Officials have warned of storm surges of up to 6m (20ft) and "very heavy damage" to vulnerable structures.

No frets- just a bit of cyclic inclement weather. Go to your homes- if you can find them.

This is how the world ends: will we soon see category 6 hurricanes?

There is no such thing as a category 6 hurricane or tropical storm - yet. But a combination of warmer oceans and more water in the atmosphere could make the devastation of 2017 pale in comparison

There is no such thing as a category 6 hurricane or tropical storm – yet. The highest level – the top of the scale for the most powerful, most devastating hurricane or tropical storm capable of destroying entire cities like New Orleans or New York – is a category 5 storm.

Meteorologists and scientists never imagined that there would be a need for a category 6 storm, with winds that exceed 200 miles per hour on a sustained basis, sweeping away everything in its path. Until now, such a storm wasn’t possible, so there was no need for a new category above category 5.

Rule #1- do not let any climate deniers into the shelters.

You're not THAT moronic, maggot .

Again-

100+mph winds in Ireland, maggot.
Still sitting comfortably on your denial ?

Apparently you are that moronic!! From Wiki.

Hurricane Debbie 1961

Striking Ireland as a powerful storm, Debbie brought record winds to much of the island, with a peak gust of 114 mph (183 km/h) measured just offshore. These winds caused widespread damage and disruption, downing tens of thousands of trees and power lines. Countless structures sustained varying degrees of damage, with many smaller buildings destroyed. Agriculture experienced extensive losses to barley, corn and wheat crops. Throughout Ireland, Debbie killed 18 people (12 in the Republic of Ireland and six in Northern Ireland). It caused US$40–50 million in damage in the Republic and at least £1.5 million (US$4 million) in Northern Ireland. The storm also battered parts of Great Britain with winds in excess of 100 mph (160 km/h).

It's a little bit surprising that Southerners aren't more concerned about global warming since they are the ones who are going to be paying the price for it.

Do yourself a favour cockroach and look at the geography of Iireland ffs. It is perched on the eastern edge of the Atlantic with no land between it and the USA. My parents were born in Ireland, I've been there many times, both North and South, so seriously just shut the fuck up.

People aren't fooled by your ' comparisons ' spiel anymore , maggot. A hurricane in the 1960s is NOT an indicator that all is hunky-dory with 100+mph winds in Ireland today.
Your logic is either chronically flawed or you're simply a rat for big oil etc.
Or maybe more of a moron than I thought. Whatever, try getting into MY shelter and you'll get an old-school bayonet up your ass. Haw, haw......haw.

Yes, how dare I try to fool you with some facts!!

At this rate, Earth risks sea level rise of 20 to 30 feet, historical analysis shows

Temperatures not much warmer than the planet is experiencing now were sufficient to melt a major part of the East Antarctic ice sheet in Earth’s past, scientists reported Wednesday, including during one era about 125,000 years ago when sea levels were as much as 20 to 30 feet higher than they are now.

“It doesn’t need to be a very big warming, as long as it stays 2 degrees warmer for a sufficient time, this is the end game,” said David Wilson, a geologist at Imperial College London and one of the authors of the new research, which was published in Nature. Scientists at institutions in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Spain also contributed to the work

They'll be making video games before long featuring shooting deniers off the hills.

Hurricane ' Michael ' the fiercest ever to strike Florida- disastrous cyclonic storm ' Titli ' raging in Asia- it could become a full-time job pointing out these undeniable hallmarks of man-made global catastrophe to the dullards and environmental-denying parasites of JPP- so fuck it. They're all going to suffer anyway, some sooner than others but they're all going down. Us too, unfortunately- so stick it to 'em.

Fiercest my arse! People have very short memories, Andrew and Irma were more powerful.

Well, you also don't post anything on this board. You always pawn yourself off as some sort of "expert" on climate, but you post the same links and have no thoughts of your own, then frantically insult & whine in post after post when you're called out at all.

I don't know why you waste time here. It should be a board for people who actually want to think & debate.

LOL
First they want expert opinions only... Now you aren't giving your own opinion enough
