World faces ‘ocean emergency’, UN warns, as activists urge action

The world is facing an “ocean emergency”, United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has warned, as thousands of activists, scientists and leaders gathered at the UN Oceans Conference in Portugal’s capital to call for strengthening sea-protection measures.

“We have taken the ocean for granted,” Guterres told policymakers, experts and advocates at Monday’s opening plenary in Lisbon, describing how seas have been hammered by climate change and pollution.

“I am urging all participants at the UN Ocean Conference to right these wrongs and do our part for the ocean. We must take action and turn the tide,” he said.

The sun is eventually going to cool off before burning out altogether, and as we freeze to death, we may recall the global warming days with fondness. Who knows?

If we wanted to stretch things out a little bit, we should have thought about it generations ago, not now when it's probably too late.

If the star that we call the Sun follows it's usual path, it will become a red star, bloating out to consume all of the inner planets (including Earth).

Not that anybody with any sense at all has been listening to them for the past two years, minimum, but the time is fast approaching when they will disappear from this forum, unable to withstand the weight of ridicule heaped upon their undeveloped heads.
