You didn't complete your assignment and deliver yourself a brain, did you?

Socialism is not Stalin, Lenin, or the soviets.
No, that was simply just one form of socialism and how it can, and often does, lead to totalitarianism.

Socialism was the step after communism in Marxist theory. So far it fails at the first step every time. It is as much a pipe dream as utopia. Venezuela is just getting into the first step of communism and beginning to take the means of production and making it government owned....

Very true. With all the failed utopian socialist/communist atttempts in the 20th century, one wonders how people can think "well this time we'll get it right".

Socialism necessitates a powerful government to enforce their ideas.

"The essential notion of a capitalist society … is voluntary cooperation, voluntary exchange. The essential notion of a socialist society is force." – Milton Friedman

If it's totalitarianism than it's not socialism. Socialists believe that the community decides. So if only a handful of people are making decisions than that's no longer socialism. It's something else.

You're talking primarily about the national oil company of venezuela, taking majority ownership of the country's petroleum resources.

Norway has a government-controlled state oil company, that controls most of norway's oil resources, but I haven't seen anyone wringing their hands about communism in Norway.

And libertarians believe that the government should never initiate force...

What is reality, is.

In each case this experiment was tried it has failed.

The attempt to call welfare in many european nations socialism notwithstanding.

That and the closing of the news stations that weren't speaking on his terms with his 'voice'. And where have I "wrung my hands". I simply described the situation accurately.

Well you might wanna tell that to Western Europe and Venezuela who seem to be going more in that direction than anyone else. Uh no hun. Socialists rely on the community and the people making decisions.

then you're talking about totalitarianism, and freedom of the press....not about socialism.

Socialism is an economic theory. And if venezuela is operating their domestic oil resources, in much the same way norway is, with their state-controlled company, then the venezuelan economy is closer to the scandinavian model than the soviet model.

Wrong.................!

If it's totalitarianism than it's not socialism. Socialists believe that the community decides. So if only a handful of people are making decisions than that's no longer socialism. It's something else.

Socialism is a government controlled welfare state where everyone is on equal ground...except for the totalitarian leaders who control everyones thoughts and actions via law...thus 'Communism'...

Side note: ie: The ACLU is a socialist organization...whos founding father was a card carrying 'Communist'

Oh another ignorant person about the whole ordeal. Check out the documentary "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised." RCTV was told by their Supreme Court to stop airing certain material which was extreme violence and sex. They didn't do it so all Chavez did was not to renew their government contract. RCTV still airs their network but now they're more like CNN or Fox instead of PBS. They also participated in an illegal coup attempt against Chavez which goes against their own Constitution and they particpated in kidnapping of an elected official and closed down the whole government. So please you have not described the situation accurately at all. Pathetic propoganda shit. Do you listen to Sean Hannity?

I know what socialism is. As I said, according to marxist theory it is the step that supposedly comes after communism. So far, we have no example in the world of this utopia (aptly named). And none has existed.

That is sure freedom of speech, but it sounds far more like excuses than it does reasons.

Just repeating that others are ignorant does not make them so, nor does it make you wiser.

Socialism just isn't about economics. It's about other issues as well. And the oil profits go to various programs that the whole country benefits some.

I understand the theory, but the practice is always different.
I believe you are a fan of Chavez's socialism and over time he now seeks to override local government with autocratic decree.

"Venezuela's National Assembly has given initial approval to a bill granting the president the power to bypass congress and rule by decree for 18 months."

Once again hun the views of socialists is that the people control the government. Aww smearing of the ACLU with the whole Communist shit. Hmm well funny that Rush Limbaugh and Jerry Falwell used the ACLU when they were in shit.

I just presented facts...'Just the facts maam-just the facts' the ACLU is a 'Communist Organization...wether you want to admit it or not...as for Rush/Jerry using them...don't know and don't really care...that is their issue not mine!

Newsflash hun: that rule by decree is in their Constitution. Sorry you don't like it but it's power that their Constitution gives to president's of their country. Whoops I guess you didn't check that little Constitution out did you?

I understand the theory, but the practice is always different.

Hmm well I guess the people will be surprised to learn that Venezuela doesn't exist anymore.... Wow you've just magically made them disappear!
