Agreed that's no reason to be depressed and delusional. My kids could give a shit what the UN tells them. They had other things to be concerned about. We gave them a supportive environment so they could follow their dreams. They're both well adjusted and highly functioning.

I'm not a special ed teacher but I have a friend whose daughter has autism so I'm familiar with some of the issues. This girl has been fixated on Thomas the Tank Engine since she was a child and she's now in her late teens. Nobody can explain it; it's just the way her brain works.

That's fairly typical, from what I understand of it. My youngest has a masters in special ed. Her current classes (she has a morning and an afternoon class) include typical kids and kids with various issues including autism spectrum disorders. She said so far she has not had a child with Asperger's though. She said it's probably because they tend to be higher functioning and although they might benefit from extra services typically they do not require them.
