Sunset laws already exist. They are a waste of time because the legislation is almost always renewed.

As the debt gets bigger so do the interest payments. If the financial position of the U. S. looks shaky nobody is going to buy the treasuries to fund the debt. Without somebody to fund the debt the government cannot make payments.

Glad to see you are talking about defaulting on payments rather than repossessing planes and parks. At least you are closer to reality.
