You fear a breakdown of the social order if the police are defunded or dismantled, but what makes you think that would even happen?
I have a theory on policing that I'm sure is unpopular, but I believe that police don't chase crime, that crime chases police. Meaning that a police presence invites a criminal attempt, not the other way around. That invitation breeds conflict, and conflict breeds catastrophe. Oversight is paramount and as far as I know, not one single police department in this country wants oversight. Probably because they aren't the ones who are preventing anarchy, the citizens are despite the police who are trying to incite conflict by doing things like over policing Black neighborhoods, imprisoning Black people at higher rates than white people, or just literally fucking killing them.
If Chauvin hadn't kneeled on Floyd's neck, would society have broken down into anarchy?
