I was in Vietnam 1967 to 1968 and guess what my weapon was a fucking M-16. Only pussies who never saw combat make an issue of clip vs magazine. For years shit for brains the term clip and magazine meant the same thing. In combat brevity is your friend.

Exactly my point. Pistol rounds are for self-defense, not offense. Still, up close, a .45 has a lot of knock down power.

If it is large game, I always just prefer me old British 303. I never put a scope on it. The peep site works great for me!

I've had it since I was a teen!

These guys that go after the Prairie Dog towns with the 222's and butcher them just for funzies and target practice just slay me!

Now for Deer hunting- 222's are great- Just don't tear up the meat.

I wish I did have a 222 and a 20 guage over and under.

That way I could hunt turkey and deer at the same time.

You called them wrong then. And clips are something a woman wears in their hair. M-16 are small caliber magazine fed rifles. Part of the reason for .223 ammo was for it to be lighter so more rounds could be carried for the same weight of previous military rifle ammo.

The M1 Garand like used in WWll is a 8 shot clip fed rifle.

The thing that makes the AR 15 lethal is the velocity of the round. Most hunting rifles also have high velocity rounds.

The 30-06 cartridge is a popular hunting round the 30-06 launches 110-220 grain bullets with muzzle velocities between 3400 fps and 2400 fps, respectively.

The .223 typically has a 55 grain bullet and a muzzle velocity of around 3200 FPS so about the same speed and half the weight of a 30-06 round.

The two rifles that preceded the M16, the MI (30/06) and the M14 (308) both had muzzle velocities within 300 FPS of the 5.56 and the bullets were three times as heavy as the 55 gr. 5.56 x 45 round. Preceding the Vietnam conflict, the marksmanship of the US infantry turned from skill to spray and pray shooting. So much so that the military had to add a three round burst to the M16 just so an infantryman would not squander his ammo. Given the correct bullet choice, the 30 cal rifles buries the 5.56 in destruction.
The 5.56 based weapons excel at room clearing and urban warfare.

The military is moving to a 6.8 (277 cal) round that will run about 2900fps with a 150 gr bullet and a new lightweight case. That allows high velocity out of a 14" barrel. Now you have something special.

The velocity causes a shock wave in the body that destroys tissue. Same sized bullets moving at slower speeds don't do as much damage.

It generates 80,000 psi so it can use a short barrel and still reach out and pierce body armor at a distance. In theory our guys will be able to kill bad guys before they can kill us. The new rifle comes with a super scope too.

People that want to talk accurately about guns make a difference between magazines and clips. It is like calling a AR 15 an assault rifle when it is not. The other day I heard the semi auto pistol that the Chinese guy shot up the Chinese dance studio called an assault pistol. WTF? is that?
