Gun question.

Not blow off someone's head from 200 yards.

I advise all Americans to own a good sniper scoped, .30 cal+ hunting rifle and be proficient with it. A good home self-defense weapon is a 12 ga. pump backed up by a decent semi-auto handgun. Total cost; under $2000 not counting ammo...which I recommend buying in bulk...compare prices but to watch the shipping costs. Look for coupons and discounts.

You don't need a scope to shoot accurately to 200 yards...

You do if you need glasses. A green laser sight helps too.

It is amazing isn't it.

I wish they'd show pictures of the victims of the many, many, many mass shootings. I bet if America actually SAW what a bullet can do to a human body (especially a little kid...in Uvalde some parents had to use DNA to identify their children!) it would change the gun debate overnight.

It is unconstitutional to ban or limit any weapon, including any type of gun. There is no debating this.

I like the red dot low light one for my Ruger 10/22. That one works well at night in semi-lit conditions like a full moon, or urban lighting.

Good green lasers work better in daylight.

In very bright conditions — such as at the range on a clear, sunny day — a green laser sight will be more visible on target than a red laser sight.

Green light offers less of an advantage over red light in dim conditions. In reduced-light conditions, the cones in the eye are able to pick up both red and green light almost equally well, so while green laser sights are significantly more visible than red light in bright sun, the two colors are both easily discernable in darker lighting conditions.

I like the above recommendations. I would add a good scoped semi-auto 22, kind of like the Ruger I keep in the corner by my front door to use to dispatch the occasional skunk, possum or coon … and one stupid bobcat and one stupid coyote (still don’t know what they were thinking) that decides it wants to invade the territory. Right now I’m trying to get a decent shot at a couple of feral tom cats. So far they’ve avoided me but they’ll slip up. They always do.

Small animal traps work well.

I've used a .22 pump pellet gun to dispatch a few rabbits...then gutted and fried them up. They were eating my plants.

What makes the AR-15 so lethal?

A. It is semiautomatic.
B. It is high caliber.
C. Has a large capacity clip.
D. Your answer.

Mostly the large capacity clip. It's actually a fairly small caliber.

My main objection to it is that it's a quasi-military weapon, not a legitimate sporting firearm.
A sporting arm will suffice for self-defense, but an AR-15 is an overtly offensive weapon.
I was issued an M-16, the actual military version. I still remember what it was for.
The LAST thing I ever wanted to do was to take the ugly piece of shit home with me.

Like a car is a quasi-military tank.

Exactly my point. Pistol rounds are for self-defense, not offense. Still, up close, a .45 has a lot of knock down power.

Looking at the numbers, I would guess the average murderer does not wake up the morning of the murder knowing he will murder that day. He realizes he might murder that day, but that is just possible. He does not want to lug a big rifle around with him all day on just the vague possibility, so he picks a pistol.

.45's are made for killing horses. I doubt many people want to kill horses, so they will pick a 9mm. A 9mm would be lighter, easier to carry, and would generally allow more shots. If you want to kill a human, then more shots are better.

So to answer the original question, what makes the AR-15 so lethal? 9mm or even bullets with less force pistols are far more lethal, in that, they are far more likely to be carried and used by killers in the USA.

The M-16 doesn't have clips either. You've obviously never carried an M-16.

The first statement is technically correct, but mostly wrong. The second statement is completely wrong. Soldiers are the most common group both to carry M-16, and to refer to a magazine as a clip. Night clearly never served.

Being a gravy seal does not make Night an expert on anything.

Very few guns have clips. Neither the M-16 nor the AR-15 uses clips.
The 1911 pistol doesn't use a clip either.

And it gets worse. Technically the clip is the strip of metal used to reload the magazine, so any soldier who has used a M-16, or 1911 pistol would have used a clip to reload the magazines.

Any time you want to debate weapons with this ignorant old retired GI just bring it on.
OK here is a couple questions for you. Is a .223 a "large caliber" round. Is a AR 15 magazine feed or clip feed?

Keep in mind having a 30 round clip is pretty difficult but a 30 round magazine is pretty common.

Typical anti gun rant. All guns have a sole function. And that is to throw a projectile when fired. It is the user who determines if it is meant to kill or not.
Yes the primary reason for a gun, is to kill, be it food or a threat to your safety. There are sick bad people in this world who use guns for evil but they are a very small portion of gun owners.

They are a big enough group to have many mass murders ,many children in schools.
But I have zero faith anything can be done.
America is a gun junkie and nothing will change that.
It's just part of the fiber of America.
