‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth?’

If you are President of the USA and you are under questioning, you would say things like "that depends on what the definition of is is".. or "I do not recall"...

The reality is, remaining silent or saying nothing while talking a bunch have little to no difference.

Another reality: If you were his attorney you would tell him to remain silent.

I know for a fact folks at that level far more often get in trouble getting caught in a "lie" during testimony (one that usually is them just forgetting something then remembering later) than they ever do for the supposed crime they are supposed to be investigating. Even in innocence silence is golden.

Is that Bill Clinton whataboutism there?

That's really going back....

You do not have “the right to remain silent” unless you are in police custody or are asked to testify about something that would incriminate you in a crime.

It seems this thread is attacking people for exercising their constitutional right against self-incrimination.

The 5th Amendment can be used in civil cases (including divorce).

According to Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen, when they were investigating the family for business dealings Trump told him to make sure if they had to prison make it Donald Jr. rather than Ivanka.

Yep I'm sure you'd be right on-board if Hillary Clinton had taken The 5th Amendment plea
