Infrastructure Report by State

Yes. They didn't built a single spacecraft either. Private companies did that.

Not completely true. The Mercury program launched on Redstone and Atlas missiles. Redstone was built by the Redstone arsenal in Alabama, a government entity. Atlas was an entirely government funded program originally to build an ICBM.

Nope. Chrysler Corp built the Redstone rocket. All of them. The first were built at the Redstone arsenal by Chrysler. The Atlas rocket was built by Lockheed-Martin.
Even the fuel for these rockets were manufactured by private corporations. Both the Redstone and Atlas are capable of ICBM use.

Redstone designed and assembled the rockets. Chrystler built the airframe, Rocketdyne the engine. Sperry-Rand the guidance system. This isn't uncommon, but the design was one of the few that actually used Paperclip ex-Nazi engineers on the design team and was designed in a government facility. It was chosen for its reliability more than any other reason. It is one of a very few rockets the government designed. Most were designed and produced by contractors.

Yes. These same schools are also notorious for putting out graduates that are illiterate.

Built by a private consortium. All of the equipment in the powerhouses were also built by private companies.
Today, the dam is operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, part of the Dept of Interior (same folks that created the National Park system).

People who buy the water or electrical power from this operation do so voluntarily. Capitalism.

I'm glad you are able to accept 'Central Planning' by the Government. For the Good of the People.
Next ... you will be able to comprehend 'National Champions'. Where Government works with certain Industries.
(I'm sure you agree that Fighter Jets, Nuclear Submarines, etc. should be built by American Companies in America)

All the government did was organize the thing into a whole and contract out to private companies to do the work.

Final assembly of the vehicle took place at Cape Canaveral, using a specially built crane for the purpose. It was rolled out of the way for launch, leaving only a slender support tower and shore power connections.

The first attempt resulted in catastrophic failure when the engine shut down after gaining an altitude of only a few inches, caused by early disconnection of shore power.

The second attempt was successful, carrying a chimp into orbit, and automatically reentering the atmosphere after that. This tested the life support system of the craft, and all the conditions a human pilot would experience. The chimp craft had no windows, and the chimp could not control the spacecraft, while Alan Shepard had windows and could control the spacecraft.

With the flight of 'Gus' Grissom, the Mercury program ended. The Gemini program began, using the Atlas rocket.

I do.

Unfortunately, we effectively have no electronics industry in America any more. We haven't for decades. Resistors, capacitors, inductors, crystals, displays, and most chips, are made outside the country.

Automotive manufacturers are facing a particularly acute problem because they depend on customized chips, which largely come from Taiwan. This tiny nation is under grave threat from China, and like other Asian suppliers simply cannot move product to the States, since our ports and trucking industry are so fucked up right now.

I'm glad you didn't blurt out "That's Socialism!" in some knee-jerk reaction. Some things are 'Critical Industries'.

"National champions are corporations which are technically private businesses but due to governmental policy are ceded a dominant position in a national economy.

why are you always needing to be a moron? answer the question

I'm not the moron here, YOU are. But, because you are suffering from an incredibly low IQ bordering on mental retardation, you're too stupid to comprehend the OBVIOUS or have a scintilla of self awareness.

The electronics industry in the United States was destroyed by socialism in the form of fascism. It is not a 'knee jerk reaction'. It is what it is.
It simply became unprofitable to operate an electronics component manufacturing business under the current eco-laws. That's fascism, dude. The laws themselves are unconstitutional.

Well, that solved THAT problem. Thanks.
