Not all Americans are eligible to be President. Only natural born citizens are. This is the requirement out of the Constitution:

US Constitution, Article II, Section 1:]

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

McCain was born on a US Naval Air Station in the US Canal Zone, considered US territory making McCain a natural born citizen. Children born inside a US embassy are also natural born citizens.

When Obama's place of birth became and issue, I had thought it silly because I had presumed that he had already provided it. It turns out that he hadn't ... and refused to provide it. Right there, done deal, he's lying in my eyes. He should have nipped that in the bud within the first hour of any question; it's not like that requirement somehow caught him by surprise ... it's in the Constitution and everyone is aware of it.

The one thing they did not say was "Here's his birth certificate."
