Where is Karen Bass? LA Mayor Returns From Ghana Trip as City Burns
Mayor Karen Bass has been criticized after it emerged she was out of the country, attending a presidential inauguration in Ghana, as northern and western suburbs of her city were hit by devastating wildfires fanned by high winds.
Media outlet INKL News reported this morning that Bass was on her way back to Los Angeles and should return to the city within hours.
Newsweek contacted Bass' office for comment on Wednesday via telephone and voicemail message outside of regular office hours.
Bass was elected in the 2022 Los Angeles mayoral election, defeating billionaire real estate developer Rick Caruso, a fellow Democrat, with 43.1 percent of the vote against 36 percent.
She has come under attack for not returning to the U.S. sooner in response to the infernos, with Caruso telling local network Fox 11 that there had been a "failure" of leadership and management adding that "everybody knew these winds were coming" so the risk should have been anticipated.
Caruso also questioned why brush in the hills surrounding Los Angeles hadn't been removed to reduce the fire risk and claimed a "reservoir was not refilled in time and in a timely manner to keep the hydrants going," which he blamed on city authorities.
Bass has provided a succession of updates via social media. At around 2:30 a.m. PST, on 𝕏, she wrote: "Our LAFD and LAPDHQ Teams continue to work overnight to protect Angelenos affected:.
But @Walt says it's none of her business, or something.

More than 4,000 acres have been burned by wildfires on the outskirts of LA and people are asking why the city's mayor was in Africa as the crisis unfurled.www.newsweek.com

Earl has an extremely high IQ. He tested himself.I meant nothing of the sort. If I had, I'd have said so.

Perhaps their treatment from FEMA will be the same as the residents of Maui? I doubt that to be true.
Trump, among others, accurately pointed out the Fire management problems in CA. If memory serves me correctly, and it does, CA was dumping water into the ocean instead of filling its reservoirs. It's not. Read back through the thread. Newsom already got FEMA grants.
Trump, among others, accurately pointed out the Fire management problems in CA. If memory serves me correctly, and it does, CA was dumping water into the ocean instead of filling its reservoirs. I hate to say this because there are so many good people in CA but the entire rat's nest of politicians needs to be removed.
I say it because of the enormous loss of peoples property and damage to the poorest. Why hate to say it? It seems obvious to me.
Not enough water. Remember, environmentalists managed to cause several reservoirs to be removed.Californians have to be some of the stupidest people on Earth. For less than $1000 you can get something like this:
And there's about a 95% chance you house doesn't burn to the ground in one of these wildfires.
The largest fire is currently the Palisades fire. This is in the hills NW of downtown L.A., not east, Wally.None of the fires are in LA. Los Angeles(LA) is a city within Los Angeles County (LA County). The fires are in and around Pasadena, not LA. A real news source would get that right.
