'Immigration' ... is a Big Deal to American Workers. It's an 'economic' issue.
For me, it's about the Future. My view is that we're going to be a more 'automated' society. We're going to need LESS workers to perform tasks in the future, so why import MORE people now?
I always thought the World Trade Organization was the 'constitution' of Global Corporations. I can't believe ONE country can violate any of the agreed upon 'Trade Deals' without severe penalties. I believe it is Larry Kudlow, Wilbur Ross and Steven Mnuchin that are pulling the strings here. All Global Capitalists and should know what the hell they're doing.

Young people in my live know that ... and they're prepared to take on the WORLD for Jobs both Domestic and International, not just accept what America can give them. We live in a WORLD Economy, Fortune 100 and 500 Companies are Global ... so why limit yourself if you don't have to.
If you have the Education and Skills ... why on earth are you worried about anyone who doesn't have the Education and Skill?

Bourbon. I'm 71, retired, nice diversified Portfolio, rental properties, pension, along with SS and Medicare. I'm good, I'm not worried about anything. My perspective is as an 'observer'. I see the Future as being 'automated' where A.I. and Robotics are doing most of the work. I see the US confronting the dilemma of 'too many people, not enough jobs' to go around. The US will have to implement a UBI (Universal Basic Income). So, if that is true, why import MORE people NOW, that will eventually be collecting a UBI?

Yeah. That's what is nice about a politics forum, we all get to express an opinion. That's MY opinion. I see 'automation' increasing in speed, replacing more and more people.
The vast number of Americans AREN'T Rocket Scientists or Brain Surgeons, just plain folk that want a job. I can see them opposing 'immigration' on economic grounds.
I oppose immigration (legal and illegal) on my vision of the Future.
PS I have no problem with making people who are here NOW, Citizens.

while automation will increase in speed there are many areas that will not see automation. Things like trades and repair that the trump types can do..

If we admit more legal immigrants then we would not have to spend so much money trying to stop illegal ones.
The argument to limit immigration is the same one to limit population growth.
All of the problems caused by immigration will eventually occur anyway, simply from uncontrolled population growth.
What we need to do is build a better world, beginning with building a better nation.
It makes no sense to limit immigration unless we are also ready to limit population growth.
The nation, the planet, can only support so many people.
And I'll tell you something else.
The number it can support is indirectly proportional to the lifestyle in which they live.
If we limit human population to a lower number, all can live in a better lifestyle.
Just the facts.
If we wait too long to figure this out then everybody's lifestyle goes down.
Religions hold us back from sensible planning.
