I admittedly haven't followed this entire thread so my apologies if I am repeating what's already been said but I don't see social conservatives moving over to the Libertarian side of the isle any time soon. I also don't see the GOP catering to those who won't vote for them (on a national level) otherwise they would make a much more concerted effort to win the minority vote, especially the Hispanic vote.

Why aren't the Republicans catering to the people who formerly embraced them and are now rejecting them?

They're not going to get the Hispanic vote and in the last general they rejected the tea parties and guess what? They lost.

Why are they going after the Jewish vote? Israel, Israel, Israel. McCain courted Lieberman as his running mate trying to get it. The Jews aren't going to vote for the Republicans.

Why isn't the GOP going after the white Catholic vote instead of the Jews? Scott Walker up in Mass pulled off the biggest upset victory in political history beating the Kennedy dynasty because white middle class Catholics voted for him in droves.

Hispanics are the largest growing voting block in the U.S. and you want to ignore them? I strongly disagree. George W. Bush got 40% of the Hispanic vote when he won the Presidency. Romney got something like 27%. Hispanics share many similar traits with the GOP so I'm not sure why you would want to write them off.

I didn't realize the GOP ran away from the tea party last election.

Scott Walker lost to Elizabeth Warren during his last run. Did those white Catholics in Mass. suddenly abandon him?

They're not going to vote for your party sir and the more your party try's to cater to them, the farther your party moves away from it's base. Romney gave the finger to the tea parties and Rubio whom the tea parties worked the hardest to get him into the senate flashed the bird at them also with his amnesty bill.

Do you realize how many more white Roman Catholics are in this country than Jews? So why isn't your party going after them instead of the Jews .. who are never going to vote Republican?

And what percentage of the Hispanic vote did McCain Get AFTER Bush's amnesty ploy? Karl Rove who was the mastermind of the amnesty ploy no longer works for the GOP and he's commentating on Fox News instead to give you an idea of what a failed measure it was.

You tell me how they lost that vote because I don't know. What I do know is the white vote today makes up a smaller percentage of the total vote than it did during Reagan's time and that is a trend that will continue.

(Edit: McCain was going to lose because the Republican candidate was going to pay for Bush's failures no matter who it was.)

"The white vote" isn't voting for the Republicans in significant numbers and either is anybody else. Barack Obama is president of this country for one reason and one reason only, he's black and millions of white people voted for him because of it.

When you stand on your principles and you present different ideas than the other fella does, people are going to respect you and listen to what you have to say. When your giving people a dog and pony show because you're after something bigger and you think they're going to admire you, people will see through it and you.

What the republicans SHOULD DO is go after the largest voter apathetic group in the county them being the bigger majority of voter eligible people, the people who don't vote. If they got just 30% of them, they'd win easily.

Instead of going after the Democratic voting blocs which they're never going to get anywhere close to a majority of.

I agree with you on going after those who don't vote and trying to get them to register and vote Republican. I don't see that as being mutually exclusive though to the garnering the Hispanic vote. Republicans may not win a majority of the Hispanic vote but I don't see how you can say just write it off and don't worry about getting any of it.

I live in California and look what has happened to the Republican Party here thanks to losing the Hispanic vote. It's darn near non-existent.
 
I didn't say write the Hispanic vote off. I said stop trying to capture another one of the Democratic party's voting blocs that seeks entitlements. The Republicans had an Hispanic voting bloc in South Florida and they lost it.

The Republican party has also become an imperialistic party which is another reason why they're dying. Eisenhower and Reagan kept America as non interventionist with the exception of Reagan putting American troops in Lebanon which he later admitted was his biggest mistake as president. The two Bushes sandwiched around Clinton with all three dropping bombs around the world and invading other countries in the name of democracy has seriously damaged the GOP.

What is needed if the GOP wants to compete with the socialist Democrats for entitlement voting blocs now owned by the Democrats and therefore also become another government party is a freedom party and a conservative political movement from the grass roots in support of it. If nothing else this will convert the GOP because the thing that the GOP has been ignoring and taken for granted will no longer be supporting it if it doesn't conform.

The GOP is enslaved to it's special interests and make no mistake about it, the GOP is still the party of big business coming in the form of international corporations as are the Democrats and their enslavement to special interests including many of these multinational corporations included also.
