Madison Cawthorn Urges Fellow Conservatives to Leave College: 'I Am Proudly a Dropout

The majority of colleges students are majoring in business. Next is science and engineering. Hotbeds of marxist indoctrination.

Hahahaha! Yep.

The RW snowflakes here would have died in one of my nursing classes. We were taught to respect all people, their religions and practices, their languages if not English, their culture and cultural practices -- and to treat every single patient to the best of our ability, whether we approved of them or not. They even covered things like the birth practices of different groups. Was privileged to assist in a birthing of a little girl with a female physician, the mom's mother, sister, and aunt. They were Muslim; no males could be present. They served the new mom a traditional rice dish after, and washed and cared for the infant themselves, with nursing (all female too) assistance. It was beautiful. But then all births are. :)

The current situation is a boon for under-educated employees. For far too long employers have gone with ppl with degrees over those w/o even though the withouts might have a lot more experience and skills. It's time the worm turned.

In the mid-80s I worked for a large defense contractor (McDonnell-Douglas's Harpoon division) as a clerical employee. They gave preferential hiring to veterans, so most of the engineering sector's employees were men who had served 20+ years during either the Korean or VN conflicts, retired from the military, and were hired by McD and given any needed training. Eventually they ran low on such applicants and began to focus instead on hiring new engineering grads. They paid the kids more, promoted them over the older employees, and generally pissed most of the vets off. Then they started shoving the older ones out the door with forced retirement. A group of them banded together, filed an age discrimination lawsuit, and won.

That's a good story. This is totally random so feel free to ignore but it's on the brain. We're going to tomorrow to see one my best friends. He scored perfect on his LSAT and went to Harvard Law. He had Elizabeth Warren as a professor and was friends/classmates with Tom Cotton and the Castro twins from Texas among others. (I always give him sh*t for hanging out with a nobody like me.) So from an educational level he'd obviously be classified as pretty elite. But it's interesting to hear his perspective on it. He makes clear there were some real a*holes in his class so probably pretty obvious but being extremely smart doesn't necessarily translate to being a good person. And being so book smart doesn't necessarily translate into being good at all things.

So I almost feel a double standard personally where I would be appalled if my daughter doesn't go to a top ranked college, let alone not go to college, while saying I don't think college degrees are the end all be all of life. (especially in this time with the internet and so much information available that allows for life long learning) But maybe we'll see an emphasis return to trade schools and other avenues of skills for people for whom college isn't necessarily for them.

Esp. when it comes to those who are very gifted in things like mathematics, science, and the like.

I would love that very much. After all, the world needs a lot more plumbers than we need lawyers. lol

Have a wonderful Christmas, and a healthy, happy new year.

Last story and I'll stop (it's amazing how much time one can spend on here to avoid real world responsibilities, haha).

I work in commercial real estate and am working with a non profit group to help them open a couple of locations across the country. It's basically a welding school and they focus on teaching skills to largely low income non college grad types. These are types of jobs can pay $70K - $80K or possibly more. No one is getting rich doing that but in many places in the country you can live a pretty decent life making that type of money. It's a perfect example of what's available and a route people can go that doesn't entail a fancy degree. So I take pride in helping these folks.

Anyhow a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well. Thanks.

All the RW whining about "liberal indoctrination" at college makes me just laugh. My profs in the sciences and maths, with one exception, were conservatives. Although it wasn't an everyday topic in class, they didn't try to hide it either. In fact, my chem prof twirled around the lab talking about how she home-schooled her five kids, their favorite Bible verses, what they learned at Sunday school, God gave us chemistry, etc. I suppose I should have been poutraged at being forced to listen to this conservative Xtian indoctrination.

Even if I knew or suspected their political preferences, I do not remember them using class time as a soap box. The the facts about Newtonian physics and the facts about the Holocaust are well established. Scholarship tends to be around the margins.

I tell you what I think causes heart burn for Trump supporters.

They do not like these majors like those social studies majors like women's studies, Chicano studies, African studies.

But those were around when I was an undergrad, so it is nothing new.

What indoctrination?

I laid out my feelings about this on post #61 on this thread. Here it is:

I tend to disagree with that thought. Colleges definitely indoctrinate. They did when I went (and laughed at my professors liberal beliefs) and they do now as I have warned/prepared my son ahead of time for such. It is extremely rare to have a professor present both points of view as fact. It is even more extremely common for a professor to present the liberal POV as gospel.

Also, compare degree areas and how someone votes. Compare those with mathematics/engineering degrees to those with history and/or philosophy and/or liberal arts degrees. I’d bet they have quite different political philosophies and as a result vote very differently. I have several Indian (not Native Americans) friends/acquaintances with degrees in math and engineering and to a person, most vote conservatively in their respective districts and states. Anecdotal, yes, but I have yet to see anything that makes me think differently.

Once again, it’s only my opinion based on my own experience in post secondary education as well as the relating of topical discussions by former students and now after one semester at OU, my son.

Facts have a liberal bias

They don’t value right wing lies

Why do colleges seem to favor liberal ideas?

Because liberals BASE THEIR IDEAS ON FACTS

STOP USING LIES TO BASE YOUR IDEAS ON

Bless your heart. We need more schools like this, and more ppl like you to foster them.

Interesting. My own observations have been that ppl tend to vote along the same lines as their parents and/or others in their community, whether that's family, friends, coworkers, or neighborhood. For instance, one of my brothers-in-law has a masters in history, yet is one of the most conservative ppl I know. His wife, on the other hand, has a BS in communications -- yet is equally conservative. They love them some Trump.

My husband moved away from his rural Illinois roots as soon as he graduated from the UofI's engineering school. He is neither conservative nor liberal, but I would say that he leans left in that he feels that what the RWers call "socialism" is necessary particularly in a large, complex society like the one we all share. He supports a universal health care system, for instance. Yet he is also a gun owner and was also an NRA member.

I expect that whatever "indoctrination" might be going on in our colleges and universities will not be overridden by upbringing.

We don't all need to study the poetry of Yeats,
but Mother of Christ,
we all need the chance to learn fucking something.

Being taught helpful stuff is called "education," and as a nation, we've got to commit to it more seriously.

I agree with whomever the fuck said that.

I have a BS in business (the same as Trump, btw).

It is worth NOTHING.
All it taught me was terminologies.
I learned about 10 times more in the first 5 years running my own business than I EVER did getting a degree.

If you want to be an engineer or a doctor or something like that?
Than college is a good idea.

But for most things?
It is nothing but a waste of money (in terms of knowledge gained).

Even engineering and tech majors will find more joy out of life if they study things in college like the fine arts, music, etc.

Allowing the Victim Culture Cult to hijack universities without a fight was the most profound mistake Conservative made. It was a failure of duty.

Agreed. Education hopefully broadens the vistas of the mind as well as prepares us for worklife.
But we all need education of some sort regardless of our personal inclinations.

Most of us want to feel functional in some way, and capable of providing for ourselves and perhaps others.
People need access to the means of preparing for that. If they can acquire more than that, even better.

STEM is now being destroyed as well by the cult.

You are the minority of Americans

You don’t understand the value of a well rounded education

Why should YOU run things

You see your brain is missing some parts

You lack human compassion

It’s why you think hating irrationally is normal

It’s why you think caring about others is stupid

You are not fit to run things

STEM is now being destroyed as well by the cult.

Your brain is missing some wiring

That is why it doesn’t make sense to you

You are not fully functioning

It’s science

You know

That stuff you hate that they teach in college

Why should the fully functioning do it your way?

Especially when there are fewer in the population that think like you
