Incredible!

Perseverance has a bloody helicopter they plan on flying around Mars. It does not get much cooler than that.

NASA is proof positive that government works and can attract dedicated and talented professionals.

Yay socialism!

And yay for science too!

Funny that few libs have science degrees.

Most reputable polling in the last decade show that most scientists are supporting the Democratic Party.

Further, there are people on obscure message boards who do not feel the need to crow about their degrees and level of university education.

Mr. Owl has a "science degree," as did my father, and as does my son. None of them are/were RWers.

It is incredible how they can program these robotics to autonomously pick out the safest places to land using their onboard remote sensing technology.

It is.

The photos give me goosebumps. Being able to see another world, so far away, with that clarity. I'm really looking forward to the bio experiments and the results.

Hello Cypress,

It is incredible how they can program these robotics to autonomously pick out the safest places to land using their onboard remote sensing technology.

Watched it all on the live NASA feed.

It was awesome!

Simply amazing.

All that stuff worked to land that craft after all those months of sitting dormant during the trip. Wow.

I'm not crowing about anything, just disputing your allegations. Sorry if that makes you feel inadequate.

Me too.
High resolution photos will be coming this evening. We are just getting the raw, unprocessed photos now.

I don't have your experience, but that's my understanding too.

Different professions as expressed in Star Trek. In this case, the difference between research and application.

Engineering and technology certainly use scientific principles, but as a profession its goals, scope, and nature are distinct from science.

And that is why no real professional civil, mechanical, or chemical engineer ever calls themselves a "scientist".

I find it electrifying!

It was a great moment.

On the side, watching journalists interview physicists with Doctorates of Science try to "sell" science was the most awesome fucking thing I've seen in years!

Those poor bastards put a fucking SUV sized robot on fucking MARS and look like virginal computer geeks asking for a prom date.

I love the irony. "God bless us, every one!"

Isn't that the difference between research and application as previously mentioned? The same difference between theoretical and Applied physics?

My brother worked at JPL, and I have to admit, the enthusiasm and geekishness of those nerds was infectious.

If this bloody robot does find evidence of extinct life in this dry Martian lake bed, it will literally be one of the greatest and most profound discoveries in human history.
