Guns are the most effective way someone can kill themselves, with an 85% "success" rate. That means that of the 17,000 who attempt suicide by gun every year, 15,000 succeed. If those people didn't have access to guns, the chance that they would successfully kill themselves drops dramatically.
According to Harvard, the method by which most people attempt suicide is drug overdose, yet only 3% of those who attempt suicide by drugs actually "succeed". So if all 17,000 who attempted suicide by gun couldn't and had to use another means, those other means would most likely be drug overdose, and if only 3% of drug overdose attempts are successful, instead of 15,000/17,000 dying from guns, it would only be 510. So we would likely save close to 15,000 lives every year if suicidal people couldn't get their hands on guns.
Criminal enterprise would become much more risky if the casual supply of guns from "responsible gun owners" was cut off. Then, the criminals would have to do wholesale heists, which are a much riskier proposition than simply breaking into someone's home or car and stealing whatever weapon they left unsecured.
Crime isn't controlled by guns; crime is affected by the economy. If you want less crime, then you need a better economy and more jobs so that people won't be desperate to turn to crime. This is achieved by raising the minimum wage and passing the infrastructure bill to stimulate the economy, two things you oppose.

However, 100% of those guns were first bought legally by "responsible gun owners", then were...
(1) Stolen from the "responsible gun owner" and sold on the black market
or
(2) Lost by the "responsible gun owner" and sold on the black market
or
(3) Simply just sold on the black market by a "responsible gun owner" who needed cash.

"Responsible gun owners" have not proven that they can responsibly secure and store their weapons when 200,000 go missing every year, and 10% of the time y'all don't even tell the cops when they do.

Guns aren't even the #1 preferred method people use to kill themselves, but they are the #1 most effective method for those who do.

Shouldn't you be sure of your facts before you start stripping Americans of their rights?
First of all, most of the guns used in crimes in Chicago don't even come from Chicago.
Gary, IN, which has some of the weakest gun laws in the country, is a 30 minute drive from downtown Chicago.
Right, which is why we need to compel mandatory registration because you and your fellow "responsible gun owners" struggle with being able to secure your weapons.
It's not dictatorship to mandate you register your guns, unless you think it's a dictatorship for having to register your car.
Pit family members against each other; make the cost of owning a gun so prohibitive that the children of responsible gun owners steal their parents guns and turn them in for cash to pay for things like health care and tuition.
Mandate that every gun owner undergoes a mental health screening each year, and if they skip that screening, they lose their guns and can never get them back.
You miss one screening, you lose your guns for good.
That should add accountability where no accountability currently exists.

You lost the positive assumption when you couldn't bother to condemn the 200,000 "responsible gun owners" who lose their guns every year, nor do you get positive intent when you can't even think of a solution to that glaring problem.
I do know the facts, and according to the CDC, guns are the #1 method of murder in this country.
