Actually, the middle class already pay federal income taxes and would pay less under a consumption tax (see Damocles’ post).Which gets me back to my original point.
Here's hoping the GOP runs future elections on shifting more of the tax burden to the poor & middle class.

Depends. They could get a rebate or an exemption for the first X amount of their income. If food and housing were exempt a disproportionate amount of their income would be exempt. But the poor would pay more taxes, right?

It is counterintuitive that 1 dollar is more than 0 dollars. But the poor would pay more taxes, right?
It won't be implemented because far too many of the bureaucracy rely on jobs that center around the collection, implementation, auditing, looking at your bank accounts, receipts, for taxation based on a 400,000 page monstrosity that we've created. There is nothing more permanent than a temporary government program. The consumption tax is the fairest of all taxation which is why it won’t be implemented.

They pay nothing now…this is not fair. Everyone should share in pushing the wagon up the hill.
I do not believe that "MAGA" folks propose the abolishment of the Income Tax, nor a National Sales Tax.A very impassioned defense of the poor falling further into debt on this thread.
MAGA's America.

You just seem to believe that anything new that you knee jerk dislike must be "MAGA".
Wrong, the wealthy would pay more than the poor because they consume more. So, shifting more of the tax burden to the poor - who are already falling way behind every day because their income can't keep up w/ the cost of living, while the top 1% prosper.
Good luck w/ that.
Wrong, the wealthy would pay more than the poor because they consume more.
Those who are not mentally or physically competent would pay nothing.
Everyone must pay their fair share…it’s only fair.Their fair share?
Earl is literally saying that the poor need to pay more than they do now.
You finally get it.Wrong, Earl. The wealthy would pay more if we changed strictly to a CONSUMPTION TAX.
But, the poor would pay more than they do RIGHT NOW. Which you have acknowledged, btw - and said that they SHOULD pay their fair share.
