well, someone will just have to explain how a purposeful exemption from a background check becomes a loophole because it doesn't require a background check.

A purposeful exemption becomes a loophole when unscrupulous buyers and sellers purposely circumvent the law... in this case...the law where violent felons and the mentally ill aren't allowed to own guns.

when this law was written and signed, it was already illegal for violent felons and mentally ill people to own weapons, so legislators already KNEW this and still exempted private sales. again NOT a loophole.

It IS a loophole. It was put into the Brady Bill to appease the NRA and gun lobbyists. It was a concession that has NO USE except for murderers, felons, wife beaters and the mentally ill to be able to by their lethal weapon in a safe, secure environment.

no it wasn't. it was put there because the ATF did not want every kitchen table seller to have access to their system. you're being a moron because you don't like freedom and rights.

BULLSHIT, one of the Senators who wrote the bill explained that it was a concession to the NRA and gun lobbyists to pass the bill.

we've done this before and I shredded you with the evidence. I repeat, there is no loophole. It was an intentional exemption that private sales not require background checks because the ATF wanted as little access as possible to their system.

Considering the new proposal didn't allow people access to the NICS....yeah it's a fair assumption that they haven't changed their policies.

Of course it's near impossible to tell because the ATF has very few written policies, they mostly make it up as they go along.

OK...besides ",leave it the hell alone" what do you think the plan should be?

I'm thinking renewable permits that expire every 3-5 years with your picture on it. Free, of course. No need to charge people for their constitutional right.

Well, either let people call into the NICS or, as I've also said before, put a stamp on your license/state ID. Also have one there too for automatic voter registration. Something like this:

The "gun show loophole" is a myth. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, I'm saying that it is not the scary monster you think it is. It is statistically irrelevant.
