Pelosi says capitalism has not served the U.S. economy

Capitalism helps concentrate wealth, which is useful to fund huge projects. But capitalism is not a system of government. A lot of people do not understand the difference.

It is not a system which creates a middle class.

There’s nothing “normal” about having a middle class. Having a middle class is a choice that a society has to make, and it’s a choice we need to make again in this generation, if we want to stop the destruction of the remnants of the last generation's middle class. Despite what you might read in the Wall Street Journal or see on Fox News, capitalism is not an economic system that produces a middle class. In fact, if left to its own devices, capitalism tends towards vast levels of inequality and monopoly. The natural and most stable state of capitalism actually looks a lot like the Victorian England depicted in Charles Dickens’ novels.

At the top there is a very small class of superrich. Below them, there is a slightly larger, but still very small, "middle" class of professionals and mercantilists - doctor, lawyers, shop-owners - who help keep things running for the superrich and supply the working poor with their needs. And at the very bottom there is the great mass of people - typically over 90 percent of the population - who make up the working poor. They have no wealth - in fact they're typically in debt most of their lives - and can barely survive on what little money they make.

So, for average working people, there is no such thing as a middle class in “normal” capitalism. Wealth accumulates at the very top among the elites, not among everyday working people. Inequality is the default option.

“You cannot have a system where the success of some springs from the exploitation of the workers and springs from the exploitation of the environment and the rest, and we have to correct that,” she said.

You cannot SUFFER that system indefinitely- but it's the system that exists. On the other hand, those that ENJOY that system hold the reins of power.
The solution is intellectual revolution.

The Democratic Party is not evil you fool

Yeah, the ones who are gaslighting the people absolutely are! You are as bad as Trump supporters in your blind dedication to a party as opposed to principles and policy.

As James Garfield, then a U.S. Representative, wrote in April 1877:

Now, more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand those high qualities to represent them in the national legislature.

LONDON — For some, the economic philosophy of capitalism is synonymous with America.

But the concept is in urgent need of being improved and has not served the U.S. economy as well as it could have, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told an audience in London on Friday.

“In America, capitalism is our system, it is our economic system, but it has not served our economy as well as it should,” she told guests attending an event at the international affairs think tank Chatham House. “So what we want to do is not depart from that, but to improve it and to make sure that it serves us.”

I just looked it up and nowhere in the history of the founding of the USA was there a designation and Congressional approval for insider stock trading and bribery by elected officials. Can you provide the link? Also, your obvious support of Citizens United is duly noted.

An actual piece of news from the Washington Compost!

Well, not really news, since I already knew that the Wicked Witch of the West was a commie.

Pelosi said another glimmer of hope may be turning to a greener economy, with “environmental justice” leading to job creation in United States. Pelosi also championed the need for “new, fresh ideas” to make capitalism “work better for everyone, because we really do have to improve that, we cannot have an exploitation of our workforce.”

Communism and fascism is not capitalism, dumbass.

What you cannot have and be successful as an economy is one where those who do are regulated and taxed such that they have no incentive to actually move forward on anything. Success doesn't spring from government, nor does it accumulate from welfare. I hold up Greece and Spain as current examples.

If other nations in the EU weren't propping those two nations up, they'd have gone under long ago. All of Hispanic America, from Mexico to Argentina, has long embraced heavy-handed socialist programs. They have remained economic basket cases as a result.

The Marxist concepts of worker and environmental exploitation are so 19th Century. The West, as a hole, has proved Marx wrong--dead, flat, wrong.

Sure Capitalism needs regulation, but too much and you kill the goose that lays the golden egg. The same with taxation. You can't build people up with handouts either.

Capitalism needs NO regulation. It can run without any government at all. It is the ONLY economic system that creates wealth. It is what built cities out of wilderness.

Maybe to an oblivious idiot. As the Industrial revolution progressed, workers became less and less exploited. Sure, basic labor (eg., "Strong backs, weak minds") were exploited and are even today, but that's because they don't have specific skills or intrinsic abilities that make them valuable. It's also why unions, outside of bottom end labor unions have been in dramatic decline. There is no need for a union and solidarity if the employer is treating employees halfway decently.

Today, as we get near a century into the Electronics revolution, basic labor is no longer a necessity in many areas of the economy. That's accelerating too. What that is resulting in is an increasing surplus of worthless low end workers who can't perform more complex jobs while the simple work they used to perform is now mechanized and computerized.

Giving this group handouts, even generous handouts, won't fix social problems. It didn't in the Industrial age either.

Do I have a solution? Not really. I can identify the issue, but really don't have a good answer for it. I do know from history that a generous social-welfare state won't fix the problem and in most cases will only exacerbate it.

The entire technology industry, including the electronics, and the computer industry, IS the result of capitalism. No government regulations needed.

So what has served America because the treasonous ways of repukes at having tRump giving trillion dollar tax breaks to their corrupt and greedy buddies,
So you must be a 'corrupt and greedy buddy of Trump'. You got tax breaks too.
while giving the working and middle class taxpayer the shaft?
He didn't. EVERYONE got taxes reduced.
Yet as a result of the majority giving the GQP and Putin's lawlessly hack in tRump gutter insurgency the boot,
Putin wants Democrats in power. He's a socialist, like the Democrats.
the following has happened in order to mitigate that atrocity:

US economy accelerated at a robust 6.4% rate last quarter on stimulus
Despite the government.
US economy grew at a brisk 6.4 per cent annual rate last quarter a show of strength fuelled by government aid and declining viral cases that could drive further gains
Despite the government. Government aid and communism is not economy. You are now in paradox. You keep saying the virus is spreading with a record number of cases. Now you are saying the cases are declining????? Which is it, dude???
Powered by consumers, the US economy grew at a brisk 6.4 per cent annual rate last quarter a show of strength fuelled by government aid and declining viral cases that could drive further gains as the nation rebounds with unusual speed from the pandemic recession.
Despite the government. Communism in the form of government aid had nothing to do with it.
Thursday's report from the Commerce Department estimated that the nation's gross domestic product its total output of goods and services accelerated in the January-March quarter from a 4.3 per cent annual gain in the final quarter of 2020.
Despite the government.
Growth in the current April-June period is expected to be faster still, potentially reaching a 10 per cent annual pace or more, led by an increase in people willing and able to travel, shop, dine out and otherwise resume their spending habits.
Despite the government.
Economists say that widespread vaccinations,
Paradox.
the reopening of more businesses,
Despite the government.
a huge infusion of federal spending
Communism is not helping anything.
and healthy job gains
Despite the government. Government welfare and communism is leaving these jobs unfilled, since there is no incentive to work.
should help sustain steady growth.
Despite the government.
For 2021 as a whole, they expect the economy to expand close to 7 per cent, which would mark the fastest calendar-year growth since 1984."
Despite the government.

You cannot take credit for what other people are doing.
