Physical materialism

Materialism posits that reality is entirely composed of matter.
Go learn what 'real' means and how it's defined, Cyborg. Buzzword fallacy.
According to this perspective, everything that exists is physical, and all processes, including mental states and consciousness, arise from material interactions.

Physicalism is the view that "everything is physical", that there is "nothing over and above" the physical.

Scientism is a philosophical worldview that asserts that all knowledge about the universe can be obtained solely through scientific inquiry, particularly through the scientific method, which emphasizes empirical evidence and repeatable experiments.
Buzzword fallacies. There is no such word as 'physicalism'. There is no such word as 'scientism'.
Science it not 'inquiry'. Science is not a 'method' or procedure. Science is not observation or data. Science is not 'experiments'.

I think scientism, defined as empirical investigation,

limits us to mechanistic knowledge of natural processes involving matter and energy. It's still one of our most powerful systems of knowledge.

OTOH, we couldn't use scientism to establish geometric truths, or knowledge of abstract properties like liberty, natural rights, equality, etc.
Buzzword fallacies. Random words. No apparent coherency.

Very few people can do calculus, physics, or biochemistry...so at the individual level, I don't see how science can be the primary basis of our knowledge. Most of the things we think we have knowledge of have nothing to do with math or science ..aka, our beliefs about liberty, about love, about trust, about fairness, about conscience, about meaning and purpose.
Science is not mathematics.

Think they should have wrote books, making millions?

Same as Prosperity Gospel.
Dawkins certainly did. LOL

Exactly. Anyone who grew up in America over the past 65 years has grown up in a heavily commercialized environment. We're constantly inundated with commercials telling us that if we don't buy our loved ones a certain car or fashion accessory, then we don't really love them. We're constantly pressured to believe that if we aren't rich, then we are losers.

The Orange Messiah is an excellent example of such ideals. Same goes for those who choose to follow him.

Do you think your consciousness resides somewhere outside your own body? Where would that be?

At your church?
Your psychiatrist’s office?
Out in the ether somewhere?

When your consciousness is “out there” somewhere, what does it observe? Does it send messages back to you to see how you’re doing?

Inquiring minds want to know.
A question that limits people to a black & white answer. I think there's more to existence than our corporeal bodies. I think some part of who we are transcends death but I also believe that we won't remain individuals. More like the "tears in the rain" thing. A drop in the ocean.

Some fear it because they fear losing themselves. Others see it as an opportunity to become part of something greater. Some think "when yur ded, yur ded". Weird, eh?

You're always demeaning and belligerent when someone doesn't agree 110 percent with your militant and uncompromising atheism.

Angry atheists are never a good look.

I'm not smart enough to know what the answer is. I'm saying reason, consciousness, imagination is something beyond physics and chemistry. We don't have a science to explain it. It's possible it's something transcendental, it's possible we are participating in some kind of universal Tao. Who knows?

On the other hand, I'm willing to hear someone convince me that consciousness, imagination, love, conscience is nothing more than the motions of inanimate electrons in your skull.

So I guess you don't believe in ghosts.

A physical materialist will say conciousness is merely the result of electrochemical interactions between electrons in the skull.

If materialism is true the conscious mind is nothing more than colliding subatomic particles.

That's never made a lot of sense to me. Mind, reason, conscience, imagination, conciousness must be more than just biochemistry. It seems like a participation in something higher up and further out.

Of course it doesn't make sense to you. You aren't that bright. We've already seen you are a FRANTIC GOOGLER. LOL.

Agreed, but anger never looks good on anyone except physical altercations. Online it just makes them look stupid and overly emotional. Which all extremists tend to do.

Mature, rational people "maintain an even strain". Militant atheists, not so much.

You won't get a direct answer from Cy. He's more "wild hand waving" after he's read what Google AI told him.

It would be fun if he actually followed his own hypotheses to their logical conclusion but the presence of "logic" would afright him.

Ironic. Seriously. You lose your fuckin shit everytime some so much as hints at being an atheist. Get over yourself, you slackjawed yokel.

Angry atheists are never a good look.

As usual. Whining about atheists.

LOL.

The only person angry on here is you, Cletus. you lose your shit when you see atheists.

Why do you claim to be an "agnostic"?

I'm not smart enough

I'll say.

It's usually the bible thumpers and the militant atheists who get belligerent and annoyed when someone does not agree 120 percent with their belief system.
