Putin fears NATO

I'm a MAGA supporter but I'm a Ukraine supporter too. Pretty much everyone I know has been surprised by Russia's military's ineptness. Almost every expert that I know of thought Russia would crush Ukraine. IN FACT the Biden administration's first response was to offer Zelenskyy a ride out of Ukraine. That isn't something we would do if we thought Ukraine would successfully resist Russia. Zelenkskyy said "I don't need a ride I need weapons" Trump knew Putin was a danger and sent Javelins and the Democrats were blasted him for doing it. You guys sure are revisionist in your thinking. Now if we can thread this needle and help push Russia back to its borders and not start a nuclear war at the same time. I'm not sure the demented old fool in the White House can do that.

Thank you for being a supporter of democracy in Ukraine.

I was laughably wrong for assuming there was a low probability Putin would order a full scale invasion.

In terms of manpower and sheer firepower, I always thought the Russian military was formidable.

But I never thought the Russian army would have a cake walk in Ukraine -->

Ukraine is not Chechnya, Georgia, or Moldava. Ukraine is a large country with a substantial military, capable of inflicting significant damage.

Western economic sanctions would dwarf those seen after Crimea. A full scale invasion imposes enormous military and economic costs on Russia.

I also believe that Putin uses NATO the same way that U.S. Reichwing politicians use other groups like illegal immigrants, Muslims, etc. They are useful to scare the populace with and ensure that he stays in power because only he can protect them.
:good4u:

Russian despots have been using the "decadent and morally corrupt" West as a boogey man for at least 200 years, if not more.

When I saw the US intelligence say that Russia military had moved blood banks too the Russian Ukrainian border I knew it was game on. I told JPP the invasion was imminent and got poo pooed. I believe had Biden acted decidedly much earlier the invasion MIGHT have been avoided. But the US sat around and thwittled its thumbs and waited till after Ukraine was invaded . And we still need to get Ukraine those MIGs.

So MILLIONS of illegals flowing into the US unchecked from every part of the world including areas that would do us harm isn't a problem?

You also said it was pure fantasy that Putin would invade Ukraine.

A lot of your MAGA buddies have been screaming that we should stop supporting Ukraine because it might make Putin mad, and Putin has an intimidating, formidable army.

Just search the term "don't poke the Russian bear" on this forum from January to March of this year.

The fact is Putin's army is a paper tiger, it has been shattered, and there is no need for MAGA losers to tell us we should be intimidated by Putin
If Putin unleashes a tactical nuke what will you say then?

I don't think that it works so well anymore. Even back in the heart of the Iron Curtain days, I recall young Russians paying small fortunes for black market blue jeans because they wanted to look as cool as young Brits and young Americans. They don't see us as "corrupt" and evil as their leaders wish they would. They want lifestyles like we have -- the money and freedom to travel, material things that make life easier, fulfilling careers not chosen for them, etc.

Decided? In what way?

Oh look, another armchair general. So in your great wisdom and vast knowledge of geopolitics and military strategy, what should Biden have done that he did not do?

Gather a world coalition and pledge support and arm Ukraine when we started seeing a large build up of forces. Also put a list of sanctions that would be immediately in place if Putin attacked Ukraine. None of this you had better not of something might happen to you. More this WILL happen to you.

first, the Kremlin has categorically ruled out the use of nukes.

Second, Republicans can't live in abject fear that a bully is blustering about blowing up up the world, whether it is Adolph Hitler, Kim Jung Un, or Vlad Putin.

Moral of the story: Republicans need to learn to remain steadfast in the face of bullies .

“Russia's decision to order troops into parts of eastern Ukraine is "the beginning of a Russian invasion," President Biden said on Tuesday as he announced a new set of sweeping sanctions targeting Russia's ability to do business with the West.”
