A school teacher has been arrested on marijuana charges.

Brian Edward DuFresne, 49, was arrested on two counts of unlawful distribution of marijuana or marijuana concentrate.

Louisville police said DuFresne is a Boulder Valley School District employee. The Boulder Valley School District staff directory listed DeFresne as a teacher at Monarch High School in Louisville.

According to an arrest affidavit, DuFresne is accused of giving students marijuana edibles on several occasions.

Jillian Lafave, a former Valley High School teacher arrested on suspicion of sexual misconduct with a student, never received a license to teach in Nevada.

The Clark County School District, operating under a long-standing practice to address its chronic teacher shortage, hired Lafave without a license on file and allowed her to work under the radar as a special education resource teacher since August.

Lafave moved last year to Las Vegas from Houston, and records from the Texas State Board of Educator Certification show she received authorization to work as a classroom teacher in that state.

However, a search on the Nevada Department of Education’s teacher licensure database reveals Lafave never received the proper credentials to work in a classroom here. Records also indicate state officials knew as early as November that Lafave was teaching at Valley High without a license.

District officials would not comment on Lafave, citing personnel matters. But Andre Long, co-interim chief human resources officer, confirmed the district hired 300 to 400 teachers for the 2015-16 school year who, like Lafave, did not have a license to work in Nevada.

The district operated on the assumption that the state’s thinly staffed office of educator licensure would approve their license applications later.

“In order to fill the critical teacher shortage in CCSD, teachers who have applied for a license with the state, have been reviewed and meet all the qualifications, which includes passing a background check, are temporarily placed in a classroom until their license is processed with the state,” the district said in a statement.

Many of the unlicensed teachers hired for the 2015-16 school year received their license as late as December, Long said, adding that he “can’t think of anyone” who lacks a license and now works in a classroom.

Lafave has since started a new job in Las Vegas, her attorney said.

A Wisconsin high school staffer was arrested after he was caught on camera body-slamming a 14-year-old student and screaming profanities as he held the teen by the throat.

The disturbing video showed the 39-year-old assistant teacher at Milwaukee’s Bay View High School throw the boy onto a classroom table and then push him to the ground, where he grabbed the student’s neck.

The aide was arrested for physical abuse of a child, Milwaukee Police told the New York Daily News. Officers have not identified him because he has not yet been charged.
The boy was taken to a local hospital after the Wednesday morning attack and treated for minor injuries.

The footage, which started spreading online shortly after the classroom beating, begins just seconds before the aide pounced on his pupil. It does not show what led up to the assault.

“The fuck you say, motherfucker?” the teacher barked as he shoved the student first to the desk and then to the floor. “The fuck I tell you, little motherfucker?” The teacher also called the boy “nigger” as the teen struggled to break free of his grasp.

Other students in the classroom said the two had been bickering back-and-forth before the attack, although they did not say what the fight was about.
The student was being disrespectful, they said.

“(The student) was talking stuff and then the teacher came, slammed him on the chair, and started choking him saying you don't know who you're (expletive) messing with,” another 14-year-old student told CBS58.

The Milwaukee school district said the aide has been “removed from the classroom” and is facing further punishment.
“(The Milwaukee Public School District) finds this incident deeply disturbing," the district said in a statement. "This staff member — who is a paraprofessional (teacher aide) — faces disciplinary action, including termination,”

Police are continuing to investigate the case.

A Life Way Christian School teacher pleaded innocent to sexual assault charges involving a student.

Richard Thomas Riley, 34, of Centerton was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual assault and distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child. He is free on $50,000 bond.

Riley was fired from Life Way Christian, according to Luke Bowers, an administrator with the school. Riley worked for the school since 2013. He taught physical science and world history, primarily to freshmen and sophomores.

The case was referred to the Benton County sheriff's office's cyber crime division after a father reported he found on an iPad sexually explicit messages and nude images from Riley's Facebook Messenger to his 16-year-old daughter, according to an affidavit.

The girl was interviewed and admitted she sent nude photographs of herself to Riley, according to court documents. The girl said she had sexual intercourse with Riley numerous times at his home and she thought they were in an exclusive relationship.

A sheriff's office detective interviewed Riley, who admitted he sent nude photographs to the girl, but Riley denied the girl had been to his home, according to court documents.

Riley was interviewed a second time and admitted he had sex with the girl multiple times. Some of the encounters happened at his home, according to the affidavit. Riley also admitted he received nude photos from the girl, the affidavit states.

Detectives also found love letters between Riley and the girl, according to court documents.

Detectives obtained a warrant to obtain Riley's and the girl's messages via Facebook Messenger, according to court documents.

A hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. May 11.

Riley has been ordered to not have contact with the girl.

Life Way Christian School is a ministry of First Baptist Church. It has about 575 students enrolled in preschool through grade 12.

A Zionsville West Middle School orchestra teacher was arrested Thursday on four counts of child seduction.

Police received a report of a young female who said she had a sexting relationship with Michael Plewa, 33, while attending the middle school.

According to police, while she was in eighth grade, she began a relationship with Plewa that included sexual innuendos, photos and suggestive comments. Her parents found out about text messages between them and the relationship ended.

The case is still under investigation.

Michael Appelbaum resigned from the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology after an investigation was launched into the allegations. School officials said Appelbaum worked as a band teacher there.

School police said they obtained a warrant for Appelbaum’s arrest. Jail records indicate he was booked in the Gwinnett County Jail on child molestation charges.

A 45-year-old Middletown man and teacher at the Independent Day School is facing charges after allegedly striking a 13-year-old student in the head, according to state police.

State police said that the student told their mother that Andrew Watt struck them in the head while he was teaching at the school.

State police began to investigate after the mother filed a complaint and Watt was arrested. He was charged with risk of injury to a minor and second-degree breach of peace.

A woman who worked as a teacher's aide and coach at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Chester County has been arrested on sex related charges.

26-year-old Christine Towers is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student.

Towers worked as a teacher's aide at Conestoga High School starting in 2014. She coached girl's soccer, track, basketball and softball in the district.

It was just a couple of days ago when a 16-year-old male student told investigators he was in a sexual relationship with Towers.

Towers was providing the victim tutoring at the school. He told authorities that the relationship turned sexual on March 17th when the two kissed. Then between that date and April 17th, he said, the two engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse four separate times.

The victim also claims that Towers urged him not to tell police about their sexual relationship.

Creek Wood High School girls basketball coach Tom Mullinicks, 46, of Dickson, was arrested Thursday after the Dickson County Grand Jury indicted him on four counts of rape, four counts of rape by an authority figure, and one count of solicitation of a minor, according to a Dickson County Sheriff's Office press release.

According to the grand jury indictment, Mullinicks is charged with four counts of allegedly raping a single victim, between the age of 13 and 18, on dates ranging from Oct. 1, 2015 to Feb. 26, 2016; and using his “position of trust or power” over the victim "to accomplish" the sexual activity.

The indictment also charges Mullinicks with four counts of alleged rape of the same victim during the same time frame; and one count of allegedly soliciting the victim via "electronic communication" to "engage in sexual activity."

A Dickson County Circuit Court date of May 9 has been scheduled.

Judge Dennis Odell ruled that the teen bride isn't protected by spousal privilege, saying such a privilege doesn't exist where one spouse is the victim of the other.

The family of an 11-year-old watched in court, as a teacher was arrested again. Now prosecutors say there is a second victim.

Six counts of felony sex crimes involving two victims landed Gabriel Argote back in a jail cell. The longtime teacher at Mendota High School-- who gave private lessons after leaving the high school-- had no reaction when he was taken into custody.

Argote was first arrested for sex crimes with an 11-year-old girl.

According to court documents, the latest allegation of lewd acts stems from a claim from another minor. Details about that crime have not been released, but the count is similar to the others.
