Well I don't think it got all the way to president, as McCain chose the battleaxe, and lost me. As for the other exacts, I was young, and living elsewhere. It will take me awhile to figure any of that out, as far as names go.

At a slower rate of decline though and the figures are misleading because they're only based on income, there are influences which aren't accounted for.

Another thing people overlook is the fact the world had an unprecedented innovation boom in the 20th Century and the middle class benefited from that. America went from agrarian to space age in about 55 years. Of course there's been a drop.
 
The 'American Way' seems always to have been sharp conflict between deeply admirable people with consciences and racist scum without, later greatly complicated by the US's becoming the centre of world capitalism.
