The Official Barbie Movie Thread

I didn't even know about this movie until rightwing men started crying like little girls about it.

Seriously. There doesn't seem to be *anything* anymore that they don't have some kind of meltdown over. I guess that's what happens when you have no moral compass, no solutions to our national problems, nothing but fear, outrage, and grievance. Deplorable snowflakes.

It's almost unfathomable to me that a well adjusted adult man would stress out about Barbie doll movies and cry on a message board about it.

H10 is not "well adjusted" in the least. He openly admits alcohol and substance abuse, calls his wife "THE SLUT," and canoodles openly on the forum with an elderly spinster who is just as disturbed.

Reputable psychologists surely should investigate the link between MAGA cultism and mental illness.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are serious actors. Agreeing to do this film gave me some confidence that the script had more depth than a marketing movie would have. I was not disappointed. At times, it was a bit heavy handed, but there were so many spot on scenes I can easily forgive that. Smart and clever. Definitely worth the watch for me.

Now I'm intrigued enough to watch it, although I'll probably wait until it's out on streaming.

That's awful. Do you have an ETA on getting it fixed?

I'm hoping today. The AC unit is fine, but the blower isn't working. And I've got a fried controller board, that's what I'm waiting on. We've had brutal heat here, it's moderated a bit but it still isn't much fun.

Stay healthy, you guys. Hope they get it fixed today!

I have AMC A-list so I've seen a lot of movies that I wouldn't have necessarily paid for. Sometimes, you get surprised. This was a pleasant surprise for me, I had expected a less intelligent movie. It is worth it. Very layered and clever.

If I watch it, it will be streaming. I am not driving to a theater to watch this movie. LOL

I prefer at home too, except that the popcorn isn't as good. The bathroom is closer though. lol

We need more comedy type movies. The last some years they've struggled with the comedy genre. The stuff my kids (around your age) think is funny is not, to me.

I recently rewatched the Life of Brian to regain a good mood after having an argument with one of my many daughters... It always works, if the movie is actually funny. Too many forced "patriarchy" jokes can make what had potential into something other than comedy. I hate paying for a comedy only to find that what I actually paid for was to attend a truly crappy political lecture instead.

I don't remember Life of Brian being about patriarchy. Are you referring to Monty Python?

It wasn't. It was my example of an actually funny movie. I don't know if Barbie is funny or not, but I do know that often in today's movies you find that you thought it was supposed to be funny, but the movie is just a bunch of political nonsense making it worthless for comedy.

Life of Brian = Funny, works to get me out of a bad mood.

Watching a "comedy" more recently made that wants to teach me how to be a good <insert leftist political ideology here> = not funny, does not work as it is not comedy.

Guess we'll have to judge the Barbie thing after we see it. What some ppl find offensive political commentary, others find smart and witty and current. Like George Carlin's humor. Mom hated it; we loved it. What I don't care for is a constant stream of f-bombs and other gratuitous swears. A few here and there can make a point; a flood is just poor, lazy scriptwriting.

I do the same "movie therapy" when things are sucking. It really helps.
