And that is where the South has remained for almost five decades now.

One thing that made the (R)s more attractive over time to those folks.... their switch from supporters of publicly-funded science, technology, and higher education (esp. in the STEM fields) to what you see in that party today. Spiro Agnewesque slurs against the "elites". Attacks on universities as "liberal nests". The cozying up to Xtian evangelicals who want the Bible, prayers, and their religion as part of public school daily life.

Ah the old great switch canard. Fail.

The reality is that the south didn't start coming around to the Republicans on the national level until the 80's and their support got more solid in the 90's and grew to where it is today. On the state level it is a different story however, and it's only been 10 or 15 years that Republicans have had control of the state legislatures.

And it's obvious that anyone who buys into the great switch theory never spent much time in the deep south, because they would know that all the old farts have always and will continue to pull that (D) lever until the day they die.
 
What with all the gerrymandering and the listening only to those who agree, it is difficult for foreigners to see how all the decent Americans can survive with the brainwashed racists in charge, if only sometimes, without a second Civil War. I try very hard to see any good in the trumpers, but at best they are the brainwashed noodles who believe, over here, that it is somehow 'patriotic' for working people to vote for their nastiest Masters!

You mean all the gerrymandering that created majority minority districts where a minority, who otherwise couldn't be able to get a job shining shoes at the Capitol, is all but guaranteed to win.

Why do Republicans suppose the grown-up world shares their adolescent prima-donna emotionalism? Nobody 'hates' Trump, kid, any more than they hate the village idiot, though they are inevitably extremely contemptuous of the clowns who voted him into political office. Have you read his multiple anti-capitalism posts over the years? Trust me even if you don't like Trump he thinks you're (all of us are) plenty willfully ignorant, he's made that quite clear.

I've only been here since last fall, so no, I have not seen them. There are several ppl here who are anti-capitalism. So?
