There is only one thing to say here

"You conservative men are so overly emotional and touchy-feely. Buck up guys, and get hold of yourselves."

So Darla... had I said something like... "I think Edwards wife is an ignorant fool for staying with scum like him and thus am happy she is dying miserably".... you wouldn't have thought it insensitive?

I laughed when they announced Falwell was dead. I am still smiling over it.

You don't like that? Too bad.

Is it insensitive of me? OF COURSE IT IS. So what?

"Because I found her story compelling.

and because I don't have to bitch on account of liberals, that's what republicans are for.

Like you are here Bitching everytime a Republican makes a false move. Take your faux outrage and shove it, God, ok?"

So her story was compelling to you and worthy of more press time than all the brown babies, but because you detest Falwell the press is spending too much time on him and not enough on the brown babies?

Still not seeing the hypocricy of your statment? Or is the world press only to report the things that matter to you personally and not to the whole?

I feel the same amount of emapthy for Falwell as I do for Muhammed Nobody in Iraq that was killed.

I was not related to nor knew either one of them.

Glory to Jerry he is giong home to heaven where he said he always wanted to go. I hope.

"I laughed when they announced Falwell was dead. I am still smiling over it.

I honestly do not care whether you laugh or not. I didn't like Falwell. I thought he was a constant black eye to those who have religious views. He hurt more than he helped in my opinion.

But I would like you to remember your statement should someone laugh and smile at the painful death Mrs. Edwards is going through.

My point was that I am accused of being insensitive for not being upset about Falwell's death. I'm not upset about it. His life was assigned worth by our society that is not assigned to the lives of others. However, just because society has assigned it that worth, does not mean I have to.

Most Americans are immune for instance, to the death of the children in Iraq that we have murdered. Either because they don't want to see them, or choose not to think about them, or because in some cases, they feel that "their lives are worth much less than ours".

I make a different judgement. It infuriates you that I'm not ashamed to say I laughed that he died.

Well, I'm not ashamed. And when Bush dies? I already have my red dress picked out SF.

:)

Comparing Elizabeth Edwards to Jerry Falwell is stupid. But you are being very stupid on this thread.

That given, whoever wishes what on her won't change anything. So again, get hold of yourself.

"I believe the richest nation in the world is responsible for the health care of its citizens. This of course, does not mean that if you smoke three packs a day and eat like a pig, you're not going to die sooner. Nothing can change that.

What part of that are you having trouble with?

And why don't you find it "funny" when fat white rich republicans, don't assume personal responsibility but preach it for poor people?"

Darla,

I detest everyone who does not take responsibility for their actions. Very few people are actually incapable of taking care of themselves. Getting an education, a job, paying for healthcare on their own. This is something that the vast majority are capable of.... but yet many will find it much more convenient to find someone else to blame for their failures or lack of effort. Reps blame Dems, Dems blame Reps, whites blame minorities, minorities blame whites, etc....

It is all bullshit. But for someone who believes it is the government that should provide healthcare, welfare, medicare etc.... to come around and talk about personal responsibility... THAT is funny.

"Anybody want to buy a used evangelical? I mean, Christ, what am I supposed to do with this loser?

I'm open to suggestions. I'm kind of leaning toward the old-fashioned stuff. Lake of fire and all that."

Sorry Luci... you knew he was coming. I told ya about it at the Christmas party. I say we find Job and stick him with Falwell for a few centuries....
Say, that's got possibilities. Job's such a whiney putz and he needs something to do.

Oh, wait. I think I've got it. Chain him to Socrates for a few centuries. He'll be chewing his own foot off within a month!

What's funny about expecting rich people who make career's out of preaching personal responsibility to poor people, to take personal resposibility for themselves?

I say if it's good for the goose, it's good for the big fat gander.

But no such thing ever took place. It has insulated Edwards from nothing.

And I really don't care who wishes him or her, good or ill. It won't effect whether good things happen to them or bad things happen to them. Anymore that Jerry Falwell is going to leap up from his drawer, rip off his toe tag, and say "I'm alive" if I suddenly were to "wish" him well.

Things happen. You either feel badly about them, feel nothing about them, or feel good about them. There is an old saying "I've killed no one, but I've taken pleasure in many an obituary". I'm not here to cry crocodile tears so everyone can feel good about me and we can all share a hug.

You conservative men are so overly emotional and touchy-feely. Buck up guys, and get hold of yourselves.
Regardless of whether it is taking place or not many a Liberal spoke volumes about the uncompassionate R who would say such a "terrible" thing.

I have made no judgement on you whatsoever, I only spoke of why I feel compassion for the family of the recently deceased.

I think you should send him Buddha's way with a 'suggestion' as to rebirth...

Hmmmm.... What makes you think he hasn't taken personal responsibility for his demise? It is a cost-benfit analysis.

I will enjoy a shorter life if I eat what I want.

or

I will suffer through a longer life if I don't.

Which do you prefer?

"It infuriates you that I'm not ashamed to say I laughed that he died. "

It does not infuriate me darla. I really don't care. It is simply funny to me when a "tolerant open-minded" liberal... is so cold.

Oops. Looks like he won't be needing those ho-hos.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Rev. Jerry Falwell — founder of the Moral Majority and the face of the religious right in the 1980s — died Tuesday after being found unconscious in his office, a Liberty University executive said.

Enjoy the fires of Hell, Jerry.

So let's just drop it there. If you want to get all girly over it, hold hands with Battlebourne or someone else about it.

this is a rather ironic statement.

Then I don't have to feel bad about it, do I? Which is what initially led to my statement, if you can remember back that far.

Do I think that he did though? No, I think he was used to having whatever he wanted, and he thought he could have his steak and eat it too. But I don't know for certain. Or care enough to try and find out. Or care at all actually.

I only wished the same for Jerry as he wished for himself, to die and go to heaven....

Darn sure glad I won't be going there....

Comparing a Elizabeth to Jerry is not stupid Darla. It is a fair comparison. You call Falwells wife a pig because she stayed with Jerry. Yet Elizabeth has stayed with a slimy trial lawyer who made millions off the pain and suffering of his clients.... but her story is compelling to you. Funny.

Side note... they really don't approve of "getting a hold of oneself" at my workplace. ;)

Because out of the three, I"m the girl? I know! I was being funny. I can't help it if the men all fall apart as soon as someone croaks IHG!
