Truck Convoy Drives on Capital Beltway in Protest

Gee, I wonder how blind people learn to talk correctly?

“While this is a natural concern, there is no known evidence that use of face masks interferes with speech and language development or social communication. Plus, children can still get plenty of face time at home with mask-free family members.”

Unless they are special needs, most kids know how to speak correctly by the time they hit kindergarten. Plus they can watch TV and see/hear speaking, and family members as you pointed out. Specious excuse not to keep kids and school personnel safe.

The teacher can lower their masks if the child is not understanding and keep a social distance. I saw it done several times when we were remote learning.

My daughter didn't wear one at all when they were holding class remotely. I can see Damo's point with the age group she has. They are three-to-five-year-olds, many with special needs. Plus she has a couple of ESL students as well. For the majority of kids though masks are just an annoyance but not a barrier to learning.

It was supposed to be a call to action and an uprising against the government. It was supposed to demonstrate that COVID restrictions will not be accepted. None. Anywhere. Ever. Including masks, vaccines, indoor restrictions, and since they're Republicans, hand washing.

It was supposed to demand that all of the 1/6 insurrectionists be forgiven. No outstanding charges, no incarceration, no fines, and since they're Trumpists, no high school diplomas.

It bombed.

Sounds like an embarrassing failure.

They use touch. Don't be absurd. Kids with speech impediments need direct teaching. Showing where to put the tongue when saying the "l" sound for instance. Blind kids with speech impediments use touch. As do deaf children to learn to pronounce words, oddly enough.

Yes. For most it is an annoyance, and an unnecessary one considering the age and risk. For some, those with speech issues specifically, it is a barrier that can set them back for little reward. It isn't keeping folks safe to mask up 3 year old children, we need to follow the science, not the political science.

Moving the goal posts…

That is not the rules, and it is way past "following the science" at this point. It is now only political science. Personally I hope the left continues to punish children in this way. Really, I shouldn't say anything, and if I didn't care about the healthy development of children I wouldn't, as it only harms the politicians that insist we continue to see the ghosts.

We’ve learned a lot of things, Damo, this was a novel virus. If we only had hindsight at the beginning of all pandemics, how awesome would that be, but we don’t, so it’s a learning process. We’ll have the science with the next variant and outbreak.

Again absurd. But hey. You do you. Run for office telling everyone that they must keep their young children masked up forever because they can't take a vaccine that doesn't stop the spread of the disease...

Thrust your fists against the posts...

Punish children, good grief Damo, it was to protect adults, not punish children.

It appears the vaccine has stopped the wide Spreading of the disease dead in its tracks.

One of the issues here is not whether the three-yr-old will end up hospitalized or worse. It's the transmission they can give to others. Another factor to be considered is the kids' parents' income. They are going to lose a lot of time off work if they and their kids get sick, even if they don't require medical care. This happened to all of my adult children. Most had sick days; one did not and lost a week's income.

In my daughter's in-person classes, they DO follow the science. She wears an N95 at all times. She has requested that the parents mask their little ones. She has MS and is on several immunosuppressants. She's fully vaxxed yet got COVID nonetheless, from their baby, who in turn got it from his aunt, who watches him. She doesn't need any more viruses. Her parents are wonderful; they send their tots to class with their little masks on every day.

No, what stopped it was Omicron giving natural immunity to everyone at nearly the same time. The vaccine never stopped the spread because folks with the vaccine still got it and spread it. (In Israel with over 90% vaccination, Omicron spread at the same rate as everywhere else because the vaccine did not give immunity).

It isn't stopped either. It is now endemic instead of pandemic. We will learn to live with the virus, because there is no other choice and the vaccine does not give immunity.

Not forever Damo, it was to protect the adults, we now have vaccines and viral medications that help do that.

Hmm. So you are in favor of parents telling their kids that masking up to protect themselves and OTHERS is "punishment"? No wonder we sane people see conservatives as selfish me-first assholes. I thought you were all about "the science." This sounds more like a hysterical emotional argument than "science."

I see the continued masking of the littles to be useless, we know the Omicron variant isn't stopped by masks at all, it even passed through N95 masks, making the masks solely a security blanket and not a useful tool in fighting the virus. The reality is, continuing to insist 3 year old children wear masks isn't following the available data and science, it is simply a continuation of what the left sees as a political value.

Nope, you continue to think you know what I think, you don’t. Conservatives are the ones who made it political. See Trump’s early response to the virus.

Yet even in blue, blue Illinois -- and other blue areas across the nation -- mask mandates are being dropped like hot potatoes. Much ado about nothing.

Yeah, thankfully an election year came along or we'd all be still sucking face masks, like the littles.
