Trump is RIGHT about Regaining the Panama Canal

A great man, by the accounts I've read. I'm confident that if he could, he might look favorably upon my advocacy. Alas, we can never know, can we?

Roll, Tide!

I can promise you that Coach Bryant hated a thief. So no, he would not have looked favorably on your advocacy.

It was a question, which you have now answered.

I'm sure your reticence on advising them would come as a sore trial to the men and women in charge. But, it is what it is.

Roll, Tide!

It was a ridiculous question.

No, I do not expect the people/groups you mentioned would seek out my advice.

You shock me. Were you personally acquainted with the great Bear Bryant?

Did he consider the USA thieves when we wrested the islands of Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippine archipelago from Spain by dint of superior force of arms?

Naturally, there was a treaty of concession. Gunboat diplomacy, I think it's called. The Treaty of Paris, signed in December 1898, ceded control of Cuba to the United States. Puerto Rico was also ceded to the United States under the Treaty of Paris. Unlike Cuba, Puerto Rico became a U.S. territory.

The Platt Amendment in 1901 allowed the U.S. to intervene in Cuban affairs and lease land for naval stations, notably Guantanamo Bay.

The Philippines was another territory ceded by Spain to the U.S. under the Treaty of Paris. Filipino revolutionaries who had been fighting for independence from Spain and now resisted American control, leading to the Philippine-American War from 1899 to 1902.

After defeating the Filipino forces, the U.S. established control over the Philippines, which remained a U.S. territory until granted independence in 1946.

Roll, Tide!

As I said, yes I was. I was not in his circle of friends. But we met several times. One of the pluses of growing up in Tuscaloosa.

I am thankful they do not. Seems like a lot of headaches.

I see. If you change your mind, Alabama is represented in the U.S. Senate by Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville, both of whom are members of the Republican Party. Would you like their contact information? Just in case.

Roll, Tide!

I know how to contact my representatives. But thanks.

The Panama Canal is the property of Panama. Nothing short of a military invasion will change that.

Perhaps ... perhaps something could be accomplished short of a full-scale occupation. Say, did you read The Art of the Deal?

Roll, Tide!
