"Trump Said Campaign Finance Violations Aren't a Crime"

I think a lot of people don’t understand the nuances of campaign finance law—quite possibly including the judge. Plenty of judges make asinine rulings that get thrown out under review. The judge could just be plain wrong and it would hardly be a first.

There’s two hurdles for The Resistance if they are going to use this to ‘stop Trump’: the first is getting the charge in front of jury and getting it to stick to Cohen. The second hurdle is trickier—implicating Trump with it.

Contrary to media hype, there’s a long way to go. Even Pelosi is tamping down the impeachment talk.

"the judge could just be plain wrong," how? Did not Cohen admit that he knowingly and willing acted in contrary to the law? What can be "wrong" on interpreting that is a crime and not just a violation?

Hello archives,

"Speaking under oath in court Tuesday, Michael Cohen admitted arranging payments to keep a former Playboy model and a porn star quiet during the 2016 election about alleged affairs “in coordination with and at the direction of a candidate for federal office” — Trump. He told the judge that he knew what he was doing was illegal but that he did it anyway.

All of these admissions, as the Judge presiding over the case, William H. Pauley III, said in court Tuesday, rendered Cohen’s actions a felony: he knew he was breaking the law — specifically the Federal Election Act, which regulates money in politics — and he did it anyway. If he had no knowledge he was doing anything illegal, but merely donated more money than the federally allotted limit, he potentially could have faced a less severe repercussion, such as a monetary fine from the Federal Election Commission.

“The difference between a campaign finance violation that is a crime and a campaign finance violation is a civil matter is whether the action was taking knowingly and willfully,” explained Paul S. Ryan, the Vice President of Policy & Litigation at Common Cause, the non-partisan organization that filed complaints with the Department of Justice and the Federal Election Commission earlier this year regarding these payments."

"Nevertheless, Trump tweeted Wednesday morning that the violations to which Cohen pleaded guilty weren’t really crimes"

Appears that we are now moving in Trump's illusionary reality beyond "truth isn't the truth" to "law ain't law," the alternative law, and after the right wing media pounds the script home, the lemmings will argue it

Lying as usual.

the Dems should run on impeachment..PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.. you know you want it, so say it

The Democrats won't run on impeachment, rather, they will play on the fact that Trump is disliked and viewed untrustworthy by the majority of Americans, and that the local GOP candidate most likely has been silent or approved of it all. Won't work on the gerrymandered red districts bit will sell with the purple seats

Good strategy/ fake news won't report on the diplomatic and economic success we are enjoying - or the renegottions to try to bust China trade barriers in favore of "trade war"
nor will they cover the FBI and FISA abuses.
It's definately a lot easier to distort reality when you have fake news pushing your lies

CNN and MSNBC has been hyperventilating impeachment the last 24 hours

From what I gather there’s a diversity of opinion on the campaign finance aspect. Cohen has other issues beyond that.

For example, Dershowitz thinks neither Trump nor Cohen broke any laws with paying Stormy. So what happens if Dershowitz was judge? Does he accept the plea?

You’ll do the ad hom on Dershowitz, but the guy is a respected Harvard Law professor. That tells me this isn’t the slam dunk it’s being portrayed as by all the lefty media hopefuls.

We have been experiencing this same "economic success" for almost 7 years now.

A professor does not usually understand how the law works outside his ivory tower.

Like the Republicans who wont call out Trump's crimes?
first off -despite your hyperventilations none of this is clear. Allan Dershowitz (SP) and others have been tearing that argument apart.

CFLaw is very complex, and sane minds are waiting to flesh this out more. Cohen is a serial liar.
and there was no trial on this -only what the prosecutor insisisted that Cohen say for the plea.
Cohen can say anything - so can the prosecutor, but we already know Mueller is out to kill Trump

But impeachment by the Dems is a done deal yes? so there are your gutless Democrats

You wouldn’t say that if he agreed with you lol.

You birds are acting like they got Cohen by blowing big numbers on a DUI check. This isn’t that cut and dry.
