Trump says he plans to put a 100% tariff on computer chips, likely pushing up cost of electronics

Not sure if this is right but I saw an expert say that cost of chip production in America is about 40% higher than in the Asian countries.....which must be reflected in the price.

Ya, costs are going up here and nearly everywhere.

A falsehood followed by ad hom - a Stalinist twofer.

I oppose Trump's idea to invest in promoting domestic chip manufacturing - but to claim he is "nationalizing" Intel the way Obama nationalized General Motors is a flat out lie - as you know.

Completely different than Obama's rescue of GM by temporarily giving the US a controlling interest which the government then sold for a tidy profit.

Asking you to stop lying would be like asking you to stop breathing I guess.

The chemicals used to make chips mostly come from Japan.
Sand is available locally, Wally.
The equipment to make chips mostly come from the Netherlands.
Texas is not the Netherlands, Wally. Neither is Kyoto.
The parts in those equipment come from all over the world, but usually each part comes from only one spot in the world.
Texas isn't the world, Wally. Kyoto isn't either.
Manufacturing chips is highly specialized.
Is that why they are made in many nations?
Even if the fab units are in the USA, the inputs and equipment that those fab units buy come from outside the USA.
The US has it's own sand, Wally.

Obama nationalized General Motors, interfering with bankruptcy laws to do it. The result was Government Motors.

To get nanometer accuracy, you need to purify the silicon, etching, and other chemicals to an insane extent. If you use sand, everything breaks.

Texas is not the Netherlands, Wally. Neither is Kyoto.
ASML is the sole provider of extreme ultraviolet lithography machines, and it sure is not in either Texas nor Japan. ASM is the main provider of equipment that does atomic layer deposition, and Besi is the biggest maker of equipment that does chip packaging; both are also Dutch.

There are about a hundred other companies that each specialize in individual parts. They make mirrors, lasers, tin droplet producers, etc. They are mostly in Europe, and all feed into the equipment makers in The Netherlands. Much of the chemical purification happens in Japan.

The high end chips themselves are produced in Taiwan and South Korea, both are technically war zones. Taiwan is very nervous about making themselves not essential. They believe that because of their importance in chip manufacturing China will not invade them. Taiwanese call TSMC "the sacred mountain that protects the country."

NOBODY said they were stupid.
LEARN TO READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU DUMB fuck.
They DO increase the price of some parts used to produce " American made " products and iF the tariffs are so high like most of Trumps are the manufacture will pass them on to the consumer RAISING THE PRICE OF AMERICAN MADE GOODS.
So, increasing the corporate tax rate will also raise the price of goods to the consumer?
You wackos are a hoot.

And the Stalinist refutes himself..

You're a dumb one, Noballs.

{The proposed deal would give Washington controlling ownership of a major industrial corporation for the first time since Conrail railroad was sold in 1986. And, along with the pending acquisition of a minority stake in Chrysler, it would represent the first time the U.S. has ever owned an automaker--joining China and several European governments in that club. It is a road less traveled, for good reason, and one America needs to exit.]

Yes, Obama nationalized GM - the US Government was the majority stockholder.

So, increasing the corporate tax rate will also raise the price of goods to the consumer?
You wackos are a hoot.
YES increasing Corp. tax CAN raise prices IF the corps pass that increase in taxes on to the consumer.
Corps can only eat so much , When it starts hurting their bottom line enough they will increase prices and pass it on to the consumer.

Obama nationalized General Motors, interfering with bankruptcy laws to do it. The result was Government Motors.

I love how the Google AI says "no, Obama didn't nationalize - then contradicts itself with {In 2009, the U.S. government, under President Obama, took a majority stake in General Motors as part of a bailout during the company's bankruptcy, effectively nationalizing it for a period.}

These Marxists are are dumb as they are dishonest.

You know this isn't true.

It actually is true. Now the imports of equipment to build American manufacturing will require 15% tariffs, and an absolutely huge amount of origin paperwork. That is true about parts, also, no matter how minor.

It is still unclear how high tariffs will be on chemical inputs from Japan. But the paperwork requirements will be worse.

This is all adding months or even years onto a race where weeks matter.

some companies are not passing on the tariff as well.

you're an ignorant dumb cretin.

we can build those tools too.

why are you so stupid?

So, increasing the corporate tax rate will also raise the price of goods to the consumer?
Corporate taxes are a tax on profits. They can be more easily swallowed. Whereas a tax on inputs is a tax on everything, not just profits. That pushes companies into loss territory, and must push up prices.

some companies are not passing on the tariff as well.

you're an ignorant dumb cretin.
SOME, that is SOME.
When it starts hurting their bottom line enough they will.
Companies are NOT in business to lose money.
You are one really dumb fuck if you think they won't increase their prices IF it hurts their bottom line.

we can build those tools too.

why are you so stupid?
And AGAIN stupid it take TIME to build the infrastructure to make everything here and IF a company is going to invest billions in new infrastructure they want to see a good ROI. and if it is cheaper for them to keep importing the parts they need to build their product they will keep importing them.
And if you think they are not going to put as much automation and AI into these new factories you are really stupid.
They will only be hiring as few people as they can.
WHY are YOU so stupid?

Bend over MAGATARDS

Um, doesn't the government use a lot of computers? Didn't the #FatassFascist vow to cut govt. spending? How does raising the cost of things the govt. buys accomplish that?
