Trump's 757 Grounded - Needs Expensive Repairs

Hello Walt,

That's why he never painted his name on the side of his Cessna. Wrong image. He can't have pics of a smaller plane with his name on it. With him, everything has to be bigger. Like his ego.
It's probably a lease or a rental.

This isn't Apples to Apples, but it's close:
Boeing 757-200 is around 18,000 USD per hour.
737-800...costs $2,180 per hour.

Numbers like that are why you can buy a 757-200 fully working for as little as $6 million. It costs so much to operate, no one wants anything to do with it.

The stench of failure follows. People who want a cheap plane to buy, but are willing to have an expensive plane to operate.

Big plane, cheap, with lots of cheap gold plating... Sums up trump.

Exactly correct. Planes might be cheap, but the maintenance costs skyrocket. It's not like he can cheat on maintenance too much because the FAA regulates that shit. No one wants a 757 dropping parts or crashing into American Suburbia.

My best guess is that Trump will fix it up enough to fly a little with the new paint job then park it at Palm Beach International Airport to be donated to the Trump Presidential Library (brothel and casino) for a healthy tax write off.

If he does put brand new, upgraded engines over the present Rolls-Royce RB211 engines, then he does plan on using it for awhile longer. I'd bet against it.

At least there's plenty of good used parts available, right? :D

Not certain, but I think MIA has a plane junkyard, and that's just a couple counties from Palm Beach.

Flying a 757 around the world or even just transcontinental isn't like restoring an old Ford. Parts have to fit exacting standards. Critical parts, and there's a lot of them, have to be fully replaced after set limits of usage. It can't just modified or parts adapted without falling within the FARs and FAA maintenance regulations for public safety reasons.

Trump is free to blow his money however he likes, but I always lean toward practicality versus "showmanship" when it comes to flying. It's not like you can just pull off to the side of the road if something bad happens.

I would agree, but in that case, what would he fly to campaign rallies in. he needs something big and with his name on it to fly to campaign rallies, and a new plane would cost between $50 and $100 million.

If he does give up the plane, we will all know he has no intention of running in 2024. It will be a big deal.

If trump got caught using used parts in a plane like that, he would go to prison. It is a big deal. When we talk about scrapping a plane like that, we are literally talking about turning it into scrap metal. If it gets scrapped, it will have close to zero value.

Even the new parts are a problem. With so few 575's still flying, they are more expensive than mass produced new parts. This was a bad investment, however you cut it.

If he can put $3 million into it to get it running, he can sell it for $6 million. If he can not get it running, he can sell it for a symbolic $1. If he can con the alt right into buying it as a museum piece, he might get a bit more than $1. However you cut it, he is not getting the $50+ million he needs for a new plane.

So a 757 is gonna just fly around empty?

I've flown 'em that way while flight testing a repair that was made to them.

Usually though, there is a reason to fly the thing...such as hauling cargo or passengers.
In the case of a passenger bringing a steamer trunk to try to stuff into the overhead compartments, it's sometimes both!

I said "stench of failure."
So you are making a semantics fallacy. Gotit.
There is a lot of failure that goes into that, so you are not completely wrong.
What failure?
I will explain to you again, but this will probably be the last time.
You never explained it once, but let's hear your explanation.
Any airline that bought a cheap plane to purchase, but an expensive plane to operate would be under capitalized. They would hope that operating revenue would make up for their lack of capital, but the last 30 years of airline operating revenue has been very tough. That means most airlines that went with 757's are bankrupt.
Nope. They are still around. Delta and United Air are still flying, and they are still flying 757s. They are reducing their fleet of them these days in favor of more modern aircraft, but the 757 is still flying passenger and cargo service.
Now here is the kicker: with perfectly working 757's going for $6 million,
About $20 million.
a lot of people who are not extremely rich, but want to seem extremely rich, have bought them. That is describing a con artist,
Trump is plenty rich enough to afford a 757. It is not a con to buy an airplane (I have three).
so many of those people default on their loans, and investments.
You can't default on an investment, idiot. Trump has never filed for personal bankruptcy.
You see a 757, my advise is to run away.
Don't run into the running engine of another nearby aircraft!

It costs so much to operate, no one wants anything to do with it.
So Delta and United Air are 'no one', eh?

Ah. The financially challenged that can't appreciate the scale of an airplane this size.
You are jealous, dude.
