A Castle Hayne man is accused of taking photos of a 12-year-old girl in the shower.

According to Lt. Jerry Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Barry Kevin Wright, 42, was arrested Friday morning and charged with secret peeping and indecent liberties with a child.

Brewer says the sheriff’s office was tipped off that Wright allegedly had nude photos of the minor on his phone.

Arrest warrants were issued Thursday and a description of Wright’s car was given to local law enforcement.

Wilmington police spotted the vehicle late Thursday night at the Holiday Inn Express off Van Campen Boulevard.

Detectives arrested Wright the following morning.

A mother allegedly got so drunk that she allowed a sex offender to tattoo her three children, including a girl of nine.

Ashley Nikole Weir, 31, reportedly told them ‘not to cry or whine about it when it hurts,’ according to what the kids told police in an affidavit.

When police arrived to the home, they found her son, 13, had a cross on his right ankle, her daughter, 10, had an infinity sign and a cross and her second daughter, 9, had a design with an arrow and heart on her right ankle.

According to police, the 13-year-old boy’s father told them his son had called asked to be picked up and telling him he had a surprise which he might not like.

When he arrived, he said he found Weir passed out in bed. All the children were unsupervised and had fresh tattoos, he said.

Two men were said to be at the house – Weir’s boyfriend and his brother, who is on the Texas Department of Public Safety’s sex offender register.

The children told police it was the boyfriend’s brother who tattooed them.

Police had gone to the house after their father asked them to check on Weir, having spoken to his son.

Weir was arrested and charged with three counts of tattoos prohibited for certain persons, a Class A misdemeanor.

If she is found guilty, she could face three years in prison.

A mom and her boyfriend beat her four-year-old daughter to death after she drank her brother’s juice, police have said.

The Dallas Morning News reports that police believe Jeri Quezada and boyfriend Charles Phifer attacked Leilana Wright in the shower, having already caused multiple injuries earlier in the day.

The four-year-old was taken to hospital after suffering from blunt force trauma, but died from her injuries shortly after midnight. A medical examiner declared homicide as the cause of her death.

When they examined the youngster’s body, medics found whip marks across her back and severe bruising ‘from head to toe.’

According to an affidavit, the mother-of-two and her boyfriend, Charles Phifer, beat Leilana with a bamboo stick and a belt.

After being arrested, Quezada told police that she had left Leiliana at Phifer’s house, as she couldn’t take her daughter in public with extensive facial brusing.

When police were called to the home, Quezada said that her daughter’s facial bruising was caused when she fell in the shower.

A Florida couple was arrested after an argument led a woman to strike her husband in the back of the head with a burrito, police said.

The man, 66-year-old Carl Owen Smith, retaliated against 51-year-old Suzanne Hurlvert, by stabbing her hand with a fork.

Hurlvert told responding officers that the couple was fighting over Smith’s desire to go the bar to drink every night.

A 17-year-old Iowan high school basketball star, who is accused of rape, will have his trial held in a juvenile court.

A judge's decision to try Trey Tucker in a private juvenile court hearing has raised questions in Jefferson, Iowa, of a possible bias towards the athlete.

Tucker is accused of raping a 19-year-old girl after an underage party in August of last year.

Tucker knew the girl from Greene County High School, which they both attended, and is alleged to have forced her to have sex with him in a car after she said no.

The law in Iowa typical sees people 15 and older facing felony sex charges tried as an adult with a possibility of up to 10 years in prison.

But not Tucker.

The judge agreed to hear Tucker's case in private juvenile court where the sentencing is far less severe.

Legal experts call this move highly unusual.

A deeply disturbing CCTV clip shows the pedophile accused of raping and murdering Cherish Perrywinkle, befriending the eight-year-old moments before she vanished.

Donald Smith had met Cherish and her mother Rayne at a dollar store and allegedly offered to take the family shopping at Wal-mart for food and clothes as they were struggling financially.

The 56-year-old drove them in his van to a huge supermarket in Jacksonville, Florida where the footage was captured.

Once inside the supermarket, Smith allegedly offered to take Cherish to McDonald's at the front of the store but the eight-year-old left with the man.

This week the State Attorney's office released the footage along with Rayne Perrywinkle's frantic 911 call, casting further light on the youngster's last hours.

In the call, Rayne obviously immediately suspects that Smith has abducted her child, saying: “I don't understand why he would leave right now, unless he was going to rape her and kill her.

She added :“The only reason I went with him because he said his wife was going to be there".

Smith has been a registered sex offender since a 1993 conviction for attempted kidnapping and selling obscene materials.

And he had been arrested several times since then, most recently in 2009 on a charge of child abuse after making obscene phone calls to a 10-year-old girl, making verbal threats, and impersonating a social worker with the Florida Department of Children and Families who claimed to be investigating the girl’s family.

He had been out of jail for just three weeks when Cherish was abducted and murdered.

A $500,000 bond has been set for a Columbus man accused of raping a 17-year-old girl while a 19-year-old woman live streamed the whole thing over the social media app Periscope.

Raymond Boyd Gates appeared before a judge Tuesday on the rape charge.

The criminal complaint said Gates, the 17-year-old girl and the 19-year-old woman were drinking at his home on February 27.

According to court documents, at some point in the evening Gates allegedly held the 17-year-old down with his body weight, forced her pants and underwear off and began to rape her.

The complaint also says the 19-year-old live streamed the incident using the social media app Periscope.

A lovelorn woman who plotted the murder of a Dallas dentist is wanted by the FBI — and they're offering a $100,000 reward, officials said Wednesday.

Brenda Delgado, 33, has been on the run since she masterminded the killing of her ex’s girlfriend, Dr. Kendra Hatcher. A grand jury indicted her for capital murder, but investigators called Delgado a “master manipulator.”

Delgado, who was studying to become a dental hygienist, hired a hitman to ambush Hatcher in the parking garage of her Dallas apartment building, according to the FBI. Investigators said she planned the murder after hearing Hatcher met her ex-boyfriend’s parents in San Francisco, and the happy couple would soon go to Cancún for a vacation.

Police identified Kristopher Love, 31, as the shooter.

A fourth person has been charged after an Akron teen was found dead in a Summit County hotel room Wednesday.

First responders found 16-year-old Andrew Frye lying face down in a chair at a Super 8 hotel in Green in what Summit County Sheriff Steve Barry on Friday called a "senseless tragedy."

Donald Callaghan of Akron was arrested after investigators served a search warrant Friday morning at a home that Callaghan shared with Andrew's grandmother, Brenda Frye, Barry said.

Callaghan is charged with possession of heroin, according to the sheriff.

Summit County Medical Examiner Lisa Kohler found evidence of intravenous drug use and heroin in Andrew's blood, and preliminary tests showed possible signs of fentanyl. More tests will be done to confirm the fentanyl, Kohler said.

Andrew's mother, Heather Frye, and Brenda Frye, both are charged with involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence and other charges. They will be arraigned Friday afternoon in Barberton Municipal Court.

They face three to 11 years in prison if convicted.

"This is a horrible tragedy because of his age," said Margaret Scott, deputy chief assistant prosecutor. "If you give someone else your poison, then we are going to hold you criminally responsible."

Heather Frye's friend, Jessica Irons, is charged with tampering with evidence and possession of drugs.

A man is accused of exposing his genitals to employees as he went through the drive-thru of Dunkin' Donuts.

The Dover Police Department arrested 30-year-old Todd Kent for indecent exposure in connection with an incident that occurred at Dunkin' Donuts.

The employees contacted the police after the man left and provided a description of the man and his vehicle.

Police were told the man had returned to Dunkin' Donuts driving a different vehicle, and though he did not expose himself that time, witnesses were able to provide a registration number.

Detectives used this registration number to identify Kent as a suspect.

Police arrested a woman for a road rage incident in which they say she rammed and tailgated a driver and yelled "ISIS" at him.

46-year-old Julie Coryell was charged with attempted malicious wounding, hit and run, and two counts of reckless driving.

The man in the incident told ABC7 News reporter Cheryl Conner that Coryell ran her red convertible into his car several times. Conner reported that Coryell followed him yelling about ISIS when police were called.

Coryell was taken into custody near her home in Woodbridge and was taken to an area facility for a mental evaluation.

A 2-year-old boy hospitalized after a small octopus became wedged in this throat showed signs of improvement as the investigation pressed on, police said.

The boy, who was brought in to the hospital on Tuesday night, has been upgraded to good condition, is in "a very delicate situation" caused by oxygen deprivation to the brain.

The toddler's mother told police she returned from work to find her boyfriend giving the child CPR. The boy was not breathing.

EMS rushed the toddler to a hospital where doctors found and removed the dead octopus - its head about 2 inches in diameter - from the toddler's throat.

Police said the octopus was not a family pet and likely was to be used for sushi.

The hospital notified police after the 36-year-old boyfriend's account about how the boy swallowed the octopus and sustained minor injuries to his face were inconsistent with the evidence.

36-year-old Matthew Gallagher was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of child abuse.

A North Carolina couple was arrested after the woman’s four children tested positive for methamphetamine, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Kimberly Dawn Lowery, 29, and her boyfriend, Nathan Todd Vallini, 27, were each charged with four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

It’s unclear if Vallini is the father of any of the children.

The four children – ranging in age from 4 to 12 – were living with the couple when a relative of one of the kids filed a complaint about possible drug use in the home.

Investigators subsequently began an investigation and tested the children. They said the results were all positive for methamphetamine.
