US 'no longer technology king'

"Despite losing its top position, the US still maintained a strong focus on innovation, driven by one of the world's best tertiary education systems and its high degree of co-operation with industry, the report said.

The country's efficient market environment, conducive to the availability of venture capital, and the sophistication of financial markets, was also given recognition. "

"deterioration of the political and regulatory environment in the US prompted the fall, the report said. "

The above was the reason for the markdown... as the article that US posted says quite clearly. Please enlighten me Cypress or US as to what political and regulatory changes have occured that may hurt R & D.

"These were the conclusions of the World Economic Forum, and an important american Trade Industry Association: we are underfunding science and techology."

Show me where in the report it says that.

US.... then I need a specific example. Because biotech, alt energy, tech R&D has been quite rapid in the past several years. Indeed I must have missed every one of the articles that you are referring to. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

Umm I think that was another thing he found.

I guess we need a link ?

"I guess we need a link ?"

It would be helpful. I read the 7 page summary from the WEF website and did not see anything like that in it. The BBC article you posted clearly did not say that.

Cypress, if you could provide a link to where you got that it would be appreciated.

I already did. I posted the link to the american trade industry report, that backed up the WEF report. You must have missed it.

was it somewhere in that SF Chronicle article? If so, then I did miss it. I'll go back and look at it again. Let me know if that isn't what you were referring to.

S-freak,

the link I posted, said that the american trade industry report ECHOES the World Economic Forum Report: That america is underfunding science, and that we need regulatory reform. I'm not sure what else you're trying to ascertain about what I said.

http://www.aeanet.org/publications/idjj_CompetitivenessMain0205.asp is the link that will allow access to the report.

Cypress, I looked at the WEF website and did not see them say anywhere that america is underfunding science. So far what I have seen on the trade report, they are suggesting that GOVERNMENT funding of tech research is down... I will keep looking to see if they are including biotech in this assessment. The link you posted is to the SF Chronicle. The reason I wanted the report is I am do not really trust the Chronicle's assessment of what color the sky is, let alone an interpretation of a report. I could be wrong...

Oh, got it.

That's what I meant. I could have been more specific. The US is publically underfunding research and science.

Private funding is great. But all great nations, have national policies with public funding, to promote economic growth.

Only a dumbass liberal thinks we aren't tops in tech and innovation.
This is laughable, no wonder you jackasses don't make any money.
You need a political report to tell you who's innovationg.
Shit thanks that was funny.

Of course all our electronics are designed and manufactured now aren't they.
All the best programmers are here as well ?
Programming is NOT being outsourced to India and such are they ?
All the major pharma companys are based here too ?

Google
Yahoo
Ebay
Johnson and Johnson
Genentec
Energy Conversion
Sunpower
LOL, I'm making big money on these best in the world pharma and tech companies:clink:

Glaxo, Bayer, etc foreign

I do contract for a MAJOR IT / communications company. A large part of our software is now generated offshore. That is why I am now a contractor. My other job moved offshore.

Where are most of our electronics made ?

Ignore what you want to Spin, it is fine with me.

electronics made offshore, ie assembled in China LOFL.
I keep forgetting how uneducated you are.

I bet you've never looked at the Global 500 published by Forbes, similar to the S&P 500 but global.
It's full of american tech and pharma companies.

Hey enjoy your bitter bile filled existance, carefull not to choke on it.
The glass half full crowed is living it up :clink:

US... true, we are not a major manufacturer of tech... much of the manufacturing is done off-shore. But we still remain on top in terms of innovation. The nordic countries certainly are at the forefront of testing new technologies as they have great demographics for companies to use as test markets.

But again, this report you cited suggested that the USA was downgraded for political and regulatory reasons. Yet, did not provide a single example of such.
