US 'no longer technology king'

US... true, we are not a major manufacturer of tech... much of the manufacturing is done off-shore. But we still remain on top in terms of innovation. The nordic countries certainly are at the forefront of testing new technologies as they have great demographics for companies to use as test markets.

But again, this report you cited suggested that the USA was downgraded for political and regulatory reasons. Yet, did not provide a single example of such.
My view goes beyond this report. And like my view on the results of invading Iraq before it took place has been vindicated, my view on this shall be vindicated as well.

US... as does mine. The US will continue to have larger portions of manufacturing done overseas. But there is little to suggest that we will lose our drive for innovation. Time will tell of course, but I would be curious as to what makes you more pessimistic on our future abilities?

Is it the downward cycle in our educational system?

The current US admin?

Just curious...

The downward cycle of our education system plays a big part. Our bloated spoiled gotta have it now posession based society plays a part. The short term profit view of US industry, etc
All these are eagerly viewed as opportunites by the hunger of foreign nations around the world to step up to the plate.

electronics made offshore, ie assembled in China LOFL.
I keep forgetting how uneducated you are.

I bet you've never looked at the Global 500 published by Forbes, similar to the S&P 500 but global.
It's full of american tech and pharma companies.

Hey enjoy your bitter bile filled existance, carefull not to choke on it.
The glass half full crowed is living it up :clink:

Top, can you make one post to anybody who disagrees with you, without belittling them personally, while at the same time aggrandizing yourself?

What do you want us to do? Kiss your gucci loafers? All fall to the floor when you arrive and start chanting "we're not worthy"?

US... the first one I definitely agree is a big problem. The second accurately conveys our societies views on consumption, but I think that is a driver of innovation rather than a detractor (ie... companies know that if they create the "new best thing" there will be big profits as people will overpay in the early years of availability)

As for the third, I disagree that companies in general look toward the short term alone. Companies like Dell, Microsoft, Intel etc... certainly do not. A company here in CO is going through phase II and III trials on a new cancer detection method, which should help detect cancer (among other diseases) earlier without as many false positives AND cheaper than the current method. Which I know is only one example, but there are many out there in biotech, alt energy etc... that are like this company.

On the issue of other nations becoming more competitive.... without question they are. Globalization has created the competition... which is good for all of us. The companies that become complacent with their market lead, will be overtaken. That said, I don't see that happening on a broad scale.

oh, almost forgot to add.... ya crazy turbo lib. ;)

darla, since your on his side your view is too limited to see where you and he insulted me first.
I'd don't mind retruning fire at all.
reread them if you have and ounce of integrity and if you look with an eye trying to catch the insult you won't be able to miss it.

Really Top?

This is your first post on the thread:

Only a dumbass liberal thinks we aren't tops in tech and innovation.
This is laughable, no wonder you jackasses don't make any money.
You need a political report to tell you who's innovationg.
Shit thanks that was funny
.

So, what is it that I'm missing again?

LOL, atta girl Darla, call a spade a spade.

Now, don't go feeling all guilty top. I don't care about how you address me. It's funny when you refer to me as "Hey duhhhla".

But I'm not stupid, and there ain't never been a man nowhere can make me feel like i am.

That wasnt' my point. My point is, about your need to belittle other men and make sure they know or feel, that they are below you in the old masculine pecking order. IE: they don't make as much as you do, so are they even men at all?

Darla his inferiority complex must be large, must have a small weewee :)

Lord help us...now I have dozens of posts from top testifying to the largeness of his penis to look forward to.

On the bright side, at least he hasn't figured out a way to blame it all on "the jews" and for that reason gives me less of a headache than AHZ.

I can blame the size of my penis on the jews?!!!!!

How come nobody told me about this before?!

U.S. Commission on National Security for the 21st Century

"Americans are living off the economic and security benefits of the last three generations' investment in science and education, but we are now consuming capital. Our systems of basic scientific research and education are in serious crisis, while other countries are redoubling their efforts. In the next quarter century, we will likely see ourselves surpassed, and in relative decline, unless we make a conscious national commitment to maintain our edge."

-- U.S. Commission on National Security for the 21st Century

A committee established by act of the US Congress

Some committee members:

-Gary Hart (former Democratic Senator)
-Warren Rudman (former Republican Senator)
-Newt Gingrich (former Republican congressman)
-Lee Hamilton (former Democratic congressman)
-James Schlesinger (former Republican Secretary of Defense)

And who do we have here, who disagrees with the above named gentleman and the commission?

-Anonymous JPP poster Topspin

*this is a really tough choice. Who should I believe?

1) Anonymous JPP poster Topspin

OR........

2) The US Commission on National Security, Science, and Technology (i.e., prominent republicans and democrats)

I gotta go with Top on this one Cypress, sorry. but he listens to business radio talk shows.

US... what do you think we should do with regards to the education problem?

Cypress... rephrase that to... who should we believe...

1) Topspin or
2) A bunch of politicians who want the government to spend more of our tax dollars

and I think you will get a more even split.

Out of curiosity Cypress... (and to be up front I don't know the answer to this either) .... do you know what the total dollars spent on R&D is compared to other nations? Even with a decrease... are we still not far ahead the next country?

I gotta go with Top on this one Cypress, sorry. but he listens to business radio talk shows.

I'm struggling with this too.

On the one hand, anonymous JPP poster Topspin makes a brilliant argument: "the U.S. is king, and there's NOTHING to worry about"

On the other hand, the argument put forth by a respected American commission comprised of top, prominent Democrats and Republicans say the US in in danger of falling behind other countries. Countries which are redoubling their public investments in science and technology. While we aren't keeping up with them.

It's a tough choice. Top makes a good argument.
