US 'no longer technology king'

US... what do you think we should do with regards to the education problem?

Cypress... rephrase that to... who should we believe...

1) Topspin or
2) A bunch of politicians who want the government to spend more of our tax dollars

and I think you will get a more even split.

Out of curiosity Cypress... (and to be up front I don't know the answer to this either) .... do you know what the total dollars spent on R&D is compared to other nations? Even with a decrease... are we still not far ahead the next country?

sorry superfreak. I've made my decsion.

I'm going with the Conclusion of the United States Commission on National Security and Science - (aka, Gingrich, Warren Rudman, Lee Hamilton, Gary Hart, James Schlesinger, et al), over a couple of anonymous JPP posters who have been claiming this is all a liberal myth, and that there's nothing to worry about.

This is getting good.
I stick by my original statement.
I'll leave the penis discussions to USC he seems to be focused on that.

The only posters I consider close to my peers on business issues are freak and Chap.
We read the wall street journal daily, watch cnbc daily, and invest lots of money.

Rest of you prob don't even watch the weekly money mag type investor shows dumbed down for the non experts.

2. things
Ya'll can name call all you want, check some facts for a change.
You'll find the highest companies in value in tech and Pharma are American.
And though we may have a hs problem.
Our colleges are world class educators.
The facts are the facts
none of you non experts are going to tell me with facts that theirs a better economy out there than our.
If you do it'll surely be funny.
Cypress you need some education in bus and finance cause you sound like that's a serious weekness compared to you gen politics:shock:

Cypress, I did not mean to imply that it was a "liberal myth". But from a BUSINESS standpoint, I do not see a reduction in R&D. From a political standpoint, I have not seen the actual R & D numbers of the US governments investments compared to previous years.

Also, I will rarely (if ever) take the word of a bunch of politicians. Politicians have a very bad habit of lying. They also tend to be poor at BUSINESS. They are horrid at economics (46 years of outspending revenues, creative economics in projecting surplusses/deficits etc...)

It is your right to have made up your mind. If you feel like being one of the sheep that blindly follows the politicians, that is your choice. I personally will wait to see some actual numbers, because there is little indication in the business world that R & D funding is hurting in any way.

sfreak:

You're confusing applied research, with basic scientific research.

Private industry invests in applied research mostly: in research that has a direct consumer benefit, and for which there is already a clear an compelling reasonable profit motive.

Basic research in the sciences doesn't always have a clear and compeling profit motive, nor a clear consumer benefit. That's why basic scientific research is mostly conducted at public universities, national labs, etc. With grants and funding from the goverment, and also to some degree by private industry.

Cypress, I am not confusing the research. I said I want to see the actual numbers. Are they talking a reduction in R & D in terms of dollars or % of GDP? My guess is it is the latter. My guess is also that the numbers have started going back up in the past several years. But until I see the numbers, I will withhold my judgement.

Side note.... if the business world R & D is still strong... and they do applied research... wouldn't that mean they are basing that research off of someone's basic research? Just curious...

I watch the nightly business report, research on the net and am making at least 100% on my market gaming, so far.

s-freak. I can't debate this anymore.

You and topspin have been given links to highly respected commissions and studies, that say the US in in danger of falling behind. That, compared to other countries, we're underinvesting. Many of the commission members are top republicans.

I can't deal with anymore statements asking me to "prove it".

I trust these commissions, more than I trust Topspin. Sorry, I'll go with the experts, rather than continuing to try to "prove" it to anyone. Links have been provided. Extremely credible and non-partisan links. That's all I can do.

Well said Cypress. Ditto from here.

Me big weewee, not so much money though, but better % gains than on your megabucks. It is fine for me.

btw paid another 10K last month on my farm mortgage, must be down to less than 90K total debts.

My total debts is now less than one years income for me , I would not change a thing right now.

Cypress... not once have you shown a site that shows annual US Government spending on R&D. Since the ACTUAL numbers are too hard for you to provide, go ahead and continue "respecting" the political hacks. You seem to feel that politicians are somehow experts on the subject of economics... I disagree. Most are not.

But if you wish to discontinue discussing, then there is nothing further I can do to change that. US... ditto.

Perhaps we can start another "I hate Reps" thread. No sense in talking about anything meaningful.

The US has lost its position as the world's primary engine of technology innovation, according to a report by the World Economic Forum.

The US is now ranked seventh in the body's league table measuring the impact of technology on the development of nations.

A deterioration of the political and regulatory environment in the US prompted the fall, the report said.

Translation: We have an anti-science republican government. A government that doesn't believe in stem cell research, alternative energy, global warming, or evolution.

Actual translation: Our school system is controlled by mediocrity worshipping "change agents" who consider academic excellence to be "racism" or "white man's logic".

Well, we could start another jew-bashing thread instead. I myself am rooting for a penis thread. But Damo has it in his "rules" that this board is not to be used for sexual gratification. I read them for the first time this morning and he actually comes out and states that.

I looked up the global 500 and got tired of paging down for any pharma or techs other than IBM. THey are not there.
Oil, auto's, banks, and insurance dominate the top ranks.

USC, spinner has no debt $1MM in assets.

Though I am about to sell 50,000 and take on a 200,000 mortg.

You should try cnbc instead of the trash you are watching and you wouldn't call it gaming.

They're not there? But you said: "I bet you've never looked at the Global 500 published by Forbes, similar to the S&P 500 but global.
It's full of american tech and pharma companies."
