What the right’s gas stove freakout was really about

Banning fossil fuel appliances would require providing more electricity for electric appliances by generating more electricity with fossil fuel generators.

The entire nation would work just like trains.

The wheels on a diesel train are actually powered by electricity generated by the train's diesel engine
because the attached electric engine generates more torque than having the diesel engine drive the wheels directly.
Meanwhile, the diesel smoke merrily fills the sky.

That was decided, I believe, in the 1930s. Progress is slow on some things, it would appear.

I believe the excuse on the local level was health concerns inside the home.

But I just had this discussion today with a customer. Instead of each home spewing filth into the air, it could be argued that power plants could be forced to filter their stacks to reduce pollution.

And of course, renewable energy would be on 'the front burner' in this discussion.

All stuff to think about, I suppose.
I won't be around for too may more annoying changes, thankfully.

We do, but UBER put his cab driver job in jeopardy.
Robo-cabs will put all cab drivers out of business.

We agree. But this bunch suffers short attention span, coupled with a desire to finish the job trump started. This is apparent in their new anti abortion rhetoric. Are they serious?

2 years is a long time when it comes to potential damage.
Time will tell. It should be interesting to watch what happens over the next year.

The Biden administration isn't proposing to outlaw the fossil-fuel-powered appliances. But they're at the center of a growing nationwide debate about city and state gas bans — and the latest Washington culture war.

Republicans and conservative pundits have spent the past week nonetheless expressing alarm about the fate of Americans’ ranges and cooktops — in line with previous GOP complaints about real or imagined threats to hamburgers, toilets, air travel, incandescent light bulbs and gasoline-powered cars.

It also touches on a real, coast-to-coast crusade by liberal city and state leaders to prohibit gas stoves and furnaces in new buildings, on the grounds that they endanger health and contribute to climate change. But the White House has disavowed enacting any such ban at the federal level. (“The president does not support banning gas stoves,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters after the issue came up repeatedly at Wednesday’s news briefing.)

Other Democrats in Washington are looking to avoid the uproar — including the Virginia Democrat who helped spark the fuss.

“I’m loath to touch the stove again,” said Aaron Fritschner, a spokesperson for Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), when asked for comment about this week’s stove backlash. “It was a very stupid news cycle. So little of it was based in fact.”

The MAGAs try to blow everything out of proportion these days. It's just best to ignore it. Let them suffocate in their Nazi propaganda bubble.

Indeed. Or we can save ourselves the aggravation and just watch Jerry Springer.

My problem with 'watching' is that we haven't seen anything positive accomplished by Congress in decades. By design. It's pretty easy to predict that absolutely nothing will get done, during a time with so much that needs to be done.

The fun part is betting on the outcome of Congress. LOL

Immigration has been an issue since the 60s. No one on either side really seems interested in eliminating a modern form of indentured servitude due to the money involved. It’s always about the money in America.

The Texas brewery flap? Money.

The upcoming budget and raising the debt? Money. Both sides will bitch but, in the end, they’ll all agree on raising the budget and the debt ceiling because it would collapse the economy to go into default.

The economy is already collapsing, dumbass. The economic depression that Democrats started is still with us.

Yea. It's like watching summer reruns.

The only question is how much damage will be done during the closure?

trump shut down the govt. and didn't seem to understand the ramifications.

I don't believe the Qpublicans in Congress do either.
The economy is not the government, dumbass.

Fossils aren't used as fuel. There are no fossil fuel appliances.
Banning gas appliances is unconstitutional.

I see you have absolutely no understanding of current in wire as well.

Both oil and natural gas are renewable energy sources. Define this 'filth'. Define this 'pollution'.
