What’s wrong with Woke?

If someone asked you what you are doing to end systemic racism how would you respond? (and do not say 'I vote for Democratic politicians')

I am not a social justice warrior as some people are, but I am doing some things.

I have taught my kids that it is generally not okay to judge an individual person based on ideas about the groups they belong to.

I have intentionally had minority friends over to the house so they do not feel it is unusual.

I have intentionally sent them to a very diverse public school to ensure they are not educated in a way that gives them a badly skewed view of the world.

I have sued organizations for discrimination, and dedicated a portion of my career to doing so PRO BONO.

I have supported qualified minorities who I believe are fair minded for offices of importance knowing they would fight any sign of systematic racism.

I have donated money to schools that are majority minority that were struggling.

I have worked to promote La Sistema music education, which if you look it up is a program devoted to ensuring that privileged and underprivileged children study music together to foster a culture that promotes a common interest among people who would otherwise not be as likely to know each other in that way.

Off the top of my head those are a few things.

You?

A discussion is not useless if we share with each other, through discussion, where we stand on issues. Part of such discussion is understanding what each other mean when we use words. For example some people are using "woke" to mean something different than its actual definition. (as in its short for awake to something, yet you are using it as in 'pretending to be awake to something') You might note that we have had two people in America elected to national office with black blood, NEITHER of them come from families that were once slaves, yet the vast majority of black Americans come from families that were enslaved. Interesting, what does that tell you? Slavery harmed families generationally and we are still seeing that.

My older brother went to a segregated school, it was much better than the local black school. Some black kids of MY GENERATION were denied as good of an education (by a significant margin) as white kids.

As I said I am not interested in "woke". That they didn't come from slaves means absolutely nothing to me. What I know is that across the country blacks are in position of power. That fact makes me question the validity of the claim that america is a racist country.

If and that's a huge IF they were denied I would suggest it's not a result of systemic racism. Recently a kid in Baltimore had some low GPA and was I the top half of his class supposedly. The local school board in Baltimore has 10 members and 9 are black.

I looked it up in the Oxford, Cambridge, and Webster's dictionaries but took the combination definition from Wiki instead. It all amounts to what I stated. If you can't offer actual rebuttal to that, it is you that needs to understand the discussion better.

If the intent is to understand each other, we both need to understand the discussion better. Using the definition you provided, I do understand you better and feel much better about your position. I understand that we both agree that racism is not a FUNDAMENTAL element of our system and both agree that there are some elements of racism in our system. We AGREE, it was just a difference in understanding the way we were using the word, SYSTEMIC. It appears I was not understanding that word in the way the dictionary defined it.

How many nationally elected officials have come from slavery? Now, tell me what percentage of our people are from families that were enslaved? The answer will show you that, at some level, the system is against that segment of our society.

Forgiveness, acceptance, loving thy neighbor. Leaving unto Cesar what is Cesars.

People engaged in and supporting said perversions are not asking forgiveness! Repentance is needed for forgiveness they are not repenting they are basically sticking there middle finger up at God!

I have three questions for you. One, how do I know which nationally elected officials "have come from slavery"? Two you haven't explained why that's a relevant indication of "systemic" racism. Three, who is "our people"?

The only system against minorities especially blacks is the democrat party!

If I may ask when you say minority friends who does that entail? I ask in the context of Lowell High School in San Francisco and all the headlines its been making. It is a school that is only 18% white (and 1/3 of the kids qualify as low income) yet is deemed to lack diversity. The reason being a majority of the students are of Asian decent. Usually when we think of race in America we think of black and white but Asians are often considered minorities as well.

The public/private school is interesting. I think of my experience. I went to a private high school that was at least 50% non white and a good number of working class kids. There were surrounding neighborhoods that had large white (wealthier) populations where acquaintances went to public school. So public school alone doesn't equate to diversity nor do private schools necessarily mean a lack of it.

But I agree that treating people with respect is very important. Now having a young daugther I admit it feels like conflicting information to say we're all God's children and to treat everyone with respect and then having the eventual talk about 'stranger danger' and the need to protect oneself.

Overwhelming voter turnout out
